Have any of you ever cooked one full day for the entire week? If so, how successful was it and do you still do it?

Last night my dh was out of town so I cooked all night.

I put a roast with all the goodies in the crock pot. I baked a ham.....made a meatloaf......fried 6 chicken cutlets.....broiled 2 chicken breasts....fried up hamburger for spag sauce or whatever......perhaps chili with the leftover beans....and boiled a dozen eggs.

This morning....I wrapped each chicken cutlet individually, 2 slices of meatloaf in each baggie, boiled the ham bone with pinto beans, sliced the ham (leaving a portion for a dinner meal) cubing the remainder for a chef salad....cubed the chicken breast for chicken salad sandwiches.....shredded part of the roast and covered with salsa for tacos......one portion of roast for an evening meal and the rest for sandwiches.

I cooked up 10 large baker potatoes and mashed them. Put two cups of potatoes in each baggie.

Tomorrow morning I'll spread some mustard and mayo on sourdough bread and a frozen chicken cutlet and it will be thawed and ready to eat by lunch time for dh.

Has anyone ever tried freezing peanut butter sandwiches? I might try that for the kids too!

No never tried that. it all sounds good, but I never know what I'm hungry for until it's meal time.

I cook ahead and freeze all the time. Works great! One big mess...one big clean up. Soup freezes great too. Never froze PB & J. My sis-law used to make 5 sandwiches on sunday, put in fridge, and pull one out for her son's lunch each day. Nasty, but she would never make mom of the year anyway.

I've cooked a few things before but never to this extent....my dh will eat anything and the daycare kids went nuts today trying to decide what to have.

It was kind of fun being able to quickly fix them their choice.

As for me....I prefer cooking and eating what I feel like at the moment. But I guess if I don't want to eat what I've cooked it will help out on the diet.....I may loose a poung or two LOL

I was just reading in another forum about peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. One lady fixes about 60 at a time and that's what her kids get. That's a little extreme for me but for an outting it might come in handy.

60 to feed them the whole week long?? I didn't think they were that hard to slap together. Maybe I misunderstood.

Freezing ahead is also great if everybody wants something different.

What is it??

It's a website for weekly grocery sales in your own area. With coupons and such. They tell you what the best buys are and if you should stock up on a particular item. Take a look....it's cost $1 for a month trial and then I think it's $10 for every 8 weeks....I've already saved over $10

Some areas have many stores to choose from but I only one....hopefully they will add Walmart to my list soon

Checked it out. Do you get something if I say you referred me?? We have a regular Walmart down the street. They are supposed to be turning it into one of those super jobs. Can't wait!! I guess I shouldn't say that because I work in a supermarket. hehe.

They have little perks every now and then from what I gather....if you sponsor 3 people in then you get 12 weeks free or something.

I haven't used it that much and still working on the in's and outs.

Do the meals still taste good after sitting in the freezer for days and then being reheated? Do they taste as good as the day they were made?

Yup. Can't tell the difference. Cheese doesn't do so good though so if you make ziti etc. make sure you have some on hand. Much easier especially if you have boys that eat you out of house and home.

yep...they taste good...depends what it is though..some things are so good though..i find if a make soup with noodles in it, it kind goes weird....the taste is fine, the noodles are just a little mushy. but like chili and spaghetti sauce taste fine....usually i'll make soups with like barley in them or something instead of noodles

I quit canning tomatoes several years ago and now I just boil them long enough to get the skin off and I freeze them separately. Then I put them in a freezer bag and I pull out as many as I need. It works great!

You can use my email address [email protected] to sign up. Maybe we can trade some ideas
