Hello ladies I usually hang out in the due date room but thought my question would get better replies her in SAHM, I am tryin to teach my son the alphabet and how to write it as well I printed some pages of the internet on how to trace the letter, and a few coloring pages as well. But he wont learn the letter A is say it a million times and as soon as he gets side tracked for a moment the A becomes a S or a B when I ask him what it is.
I need help on how to get him to remember that it is an A and maybe activities that worked for your kids. He is interested for about 3 minutes then he tells me he is done. Should I push him for not wanting to learn it or to sit still and do things or is this normal, I feel he should be ready to learn since he is 4 but man oh man is this a hard task.
Any advise you might have would be awesome. If there is a site that you used pls tell me or a game they played-Im desperate.
Thanks Lady's

Is he a young 4? I know that when my little cousin was learning the alphabet I had a horrible time doing it ( I had him in my home and he was due to start school in 2 months) and I would go to the grocery store with him and have him pick out like 20 things that start with a certain letter and if he found them all I would get him a special treat of some sort that starts with that letter. We also did the in the car game where you point out each time you see the letter.you could also set up hunts where would follow a trail of a certain letter and there would be other letters making trails and he would need to not go out ofter them! I hope some of this helps. I also have a bunch of other things that I did with him if you would like some more ideas.

i think the big thing is to not make it feel like he is "learning"...make it seem as though he's playing a game of some kind....for my 2 year old, we use fridge magnets(i'll make it look as though i need to put a paper on the fridge and ask for my daughter's help and i'll ask "can you get me the b? or the a? please"),little floaty letters in the bathtub..."can you find the c? where did it go? is it behind brother?" we also have the Dr. Seuss ABC book...my daughter LOVES that book. Big A, little a..what begins with a? aunt annie's alligator...a...a...A!!!!" lol....my daughter knows all the letters very well now....now i'm working on her learning the order in which the alphabets goes....the abc book helps...i also have a dora alphabet book....winnmom gave me a really great tip....and it's been helping ALOT....singing the alphabet whenever you brush his/her teeth or washing hands...or whenever...sometimes we'll just be sitting there and outta the blue i'll just start singing it. it's worth a shot...try it out...might work...

i worst thing is to try and push when they are CLEARLY not interested...they won't be paying attention AT ALL, and they'll just get even more frustrated.

my daughter is quite at the level yet of learning how to write yet, so i don't really know and good tips....maybe buy some really cool crayons and draw like a really big A and get him to color it in....i have no clue. lol...

yes, make it fun!
matching games, etc.........and repetition.........
they are not expected to know all the alphabet recognition until the END of kindergarten........this may help.

Maybe associate each letter with a picture, that he can color, one page per letter and picture, and then turn it into a book for him.

Like "A" for Apple
