Hi Charla,
I noticed on one of the other posts, that we are in the same situation with our hubbys being in medical school!! We should chat and compare struggles. ;) We are getting ready to move out of State to complete his Pharmacy rotations. He is getting his Doctorate in Pharmacy so it has been a very long road for us as well! My hubby has been in school FOREVER like yours, and we are finally almost finished. Let me know if you want to chitty chat about our situations and dealing with the sacrificies we are making while they are finishing up school. And the lack of time together due to studying for exams! :(

hey julia finally someone that understands !!!!! it is so hard to explain to people what my husband does they just dont get it and they dont understand how time consuming and by the end of it all how much money we will owe to school loans !!!my hubby has 1 more year of hospital rotation and a semester of classes. not much longer thank god. his father and grandfather is and were dr.s so its a constant for him to achieve all of these things which i am very proud of him for but can be very frustrating . we have moved from oklahoma to ohio and back to oklahoma were his family is and cheaper cost of school . when he is finally done i believe that we will stay here in broken arrow , oklahoma its nice unfortunatly not close to my family in mason , ohio but what can i do . so were overseas do you have to go ?

Oh yeah, I understand completely!! My hubby changed his major from accounting, to business management, to Pharmacy, to Physician assistant, and then back to Pharmacy!! Plus he was (and is going back in once he is finished with school) in the Army and in the middle of it all sent to Bosnia for a year. So that put a hold on his Pharmacy program too. We just turned 33 (we share the same B-day) and he has only 8 months to go! We are fortunate though, the military will pay back his loans for us, so we are lucky there...thank goodness! When it's all said and done we would have owed $170K!!! Yikes! We are relocating to Portland, OR for his roations and then he is done! Not sure if we want to stay up there though. we are thinking of going to McKinney, TX area or Denver, CO. Were you close to Dallas when you lived in TX?

Regardless it will all be worth it when they are done. With those professions, you can move anywhere and always have job security! ;) Good for you on being so supportive, and sacrificing so much so he can complete his education. A lot of women would not be so patient. ;) I was able to finish up my school early on so now it is his turn, only difference is, he is taking like 5 years longer than I did! LOL hehe.

that is too funny my brother just moved to portland a little over a week ago and my hubbys unle lives very near mcikinney a small town called blue ridge . i am from a small town near the gulf of mexico in between houston and galveston . so no i didnt live near dallas when i was 8 my mom remarried and we moved to ohio. long story short my real dad moved to oklahoma were i would have to visit and met my hubby his dad was the familys dr. and my step sister went to school with him thats how we met we are both in our early 30s and when he is done believe we will owe nearly 500,000 dollers crazy huh cant wait to start paying that off !!!! however i must admit when stephens grandfather died he left him with a fund put aside to help pay for just coolege as he did for all the grandchildren which is nice he was a wonderful dr. and that is were stephen gets alot of his drive from to be just like his grandfather .

Sounds like a pretty good, wholesome family to me!! I love hearing stories like that. Wow, $500K is a lot! How did his loans accumulate to so much? That is crazy! So what is his final expertise again? I like Tulsa, OK. I was there for a business trip a few years back and really liked it; not sure how close you are to Tulsa though. ;). Good luck with finishing up the last semester, I know it must be very exciting for all of you, as it is for us! Are you guys taking any kind of trip to celebrate when he's done?

ok im retyping this i messed it all up i was in another land or something so disregard the last post please had to many kids talking at me at once so lets try this again he has to be excepted into the radiology program which is another 2 years after he is done a year and a half from now he is in med sdhool now when he is done it will be 8 years that he has been in and another 2 for radiology program he will be concidered a dr . even if he does not get in or go to radiology school keeping up with all of this is even hard for me . i just dont ask anymore !!! if he does not get excepted into radiology school he will be devistated but honestly his degree for radiation therepy will have us living very compfortably so beside the fact that he would be upset i think of it this way less money to pay back and we can still live ok. he has friends who are fixin to graduate that owe more than we do 2 of them will owe when they are done 1 million dollers !!! i couldnt imagine but they chose to go to more expensive school ou oklahoma university . stephen did go to a branch of ou for rad tech and pharmacy but thank god it was a less expensive program . i should say that he started all of this schooling right after he graduated high school at 19 so its like hes never really been out of school . anyway too much about us will you be going with your husband to bosnia or is that why you are going to portland ? do you find it hard to move around so much ? how do your kids feel about moving, mine are at the age were they want to stay were they are at , they have made good friends and they dont want to leave them.

Oh I see, so he still needs to get into the program. That's a lot of schooling, I thought my hubby was bad! Once he was accepted into the Pharmacy program, he only had 3 years due to the private University he is at. Most programs take 4 years, but his is an all year round program so he is done a year earlier. There are positives and negatives to it as you can imagine.

You misunderstood my post I think. My hubby use to be in the Military back in the 90's and that is when he was shipped off to Bosnia (another Country) it was a war situation (peacekeeping) so I could not go with him. We didn't have our daughter yet at that time. He was not "active" duty in the Army, he was reserves so we did not move around. In fact, this will by my daughters first move out of California, and only her second her entire life. She was in our home for her first 6 years of life, and then we relocated an hour away for hubby's program. So she had to leave her friends one time so far. She got over it pretty quick, kids are resilient. ;) We are going to Portland because that is where he put in for his rotations. Your last year you can sign up for where ever you want to finish up the program. There were a few out of State options, and then tons all over California. My hubby's entire family lives in Portland so we thought it would be fun to finish up there. ;) He has 8 months of that and then he graduates in May. After graduation he has to take the boards, but in the meantime he can be working as an intern making pretty good money. So even though he will be done within the year, he still has a lot to do!!

I cannot imagine owing a milion dollars!! I think I would literally pass out!!! My hubby's program costs 33K a year (plus computers, books, materials, etc.) and that is even outragious for us! I do not know that much about Radiology, what exactly will he be doing? So is it hard for you too when he is deep in his studies? I get very lonely at times and crave his time. :(

Where exactly did your brother move? Is he in the actual city of Portland, or a suburb? What brought him there?

this is my interpertation of radiology here goes my example a rad tech is to a radiologist as a nurse is to a dr. the most work is done by the rad tech or nurse and the dr. or radiologist does the rest rad tech takes the xray the radiologist reads the xray there is way more to it than that as im sure my analogy is off a bit but thats how i see it . my brother is what i jokingly call a free spirit he moved to or around portland not sure wich i will have to ask becouse he had visited there and i guess fell in love with it hes not married thank god i dont know who would honestly put up with him but i love him dearly hes my only full blood sibling . so we are pretty close . i would love to visit him but not sure if i would have the time right now but maybe in the future .

I figured much when you mentioned he was single! hahaha. In the heart of Portland is where all the fun and excitement is! It is a great city and the suburbs are beautiful with a lot to do too. We are moving to Lake Oswego which is about 10 min from Downtown Portland.

Well keep me posted on how the school thing is going ok. We can count down together. ;)
