Is it important to buy your kid name brand clothes for school or do you buy the cheapest thing on the clearance rack? Just wondering. I usually buy my kids clothes when they go on sale at K-Mart or JC Penny, But I recently went to EBAY and found some Tommy and Ralph that were used but in excellent condition.

My child has to wear uniforms to school so I didn't have to worry about this. However, I see no need in buying expensive clothes for them to wear to school.

normally i would buy my son new clothes but he has so many nice clothes already and because he has only grown 2 inches and 4 lbs in the last year he still fits in them great..i had spolied him a few months ago, because i got a big chun of money and so i spent a couple hundred on clothes..

i guess it depends on how old they are. if they're just kids playing in the playground and sandboxes i wouldn't buy expensive clothes. maybe some name brands to wear outside of school...but i remember my little brother ruined tons of his clothes, and his mom always bought the name brand stuff. i just thought..total waste of money....but once they've grown up and in high school or something, i think you almost need to get some of the name brand clothes cause people can be cruel in highschool!! lol....plus when they get to that age, then maybe they can pitch in some of their own earned money to help buy the clothes that they want. cause that stuff is expensive. and also , when they're older they take better care of their stuff.

I didn't start buying name brands until my daughter was in Jr high school. Now that I think of it the close wasn't high fashion with names on them, they was just purchased at places like Bobs or Hot Topic.

my parents were lucky with me and my step-sister, cause when we were in highschool, the popular thing to wear was second hand clothes, from like Value Village....lol....pants for 2 dollars...shirt for 50 cents...oh yeah...stylish...and really baggy pants were popular too then, so we always used to just steal my dad's jeans! lol

no "chavs" in america.... or is there?

Of course there is! Chave are everywhere. I don't know what you call 'em in the US, but you can guarantee that they're out there spoiling your country!

People who buy branded products are wasting their money and being sucked into the consumerist culture that haunts western society. Fashion is just a way of printing money for the rich and greedy. People who buy fashion products are gullible sucks.

If my kids ever wanted branded crap, they'd have to buy it themselves. I buy them decent quality stuff, but that's all.

my boys just wear out the knees of there pants and grass stains so the point of buying expensive name brand is mute

Mine wear name brand clothes. There is nothing wrong with likeing nice things. Nor is there anything wrong with buying clothes that are not name brand. It depends on many things. At this point they work hard for their money and buy their own clothes, but I had no problem buying them for them when they were in school. They did not get the really good stuff until they were in Jr. High. They are good kids, have good grades and in high school worked to purchase things. They like quality and the clothes have lasted them both for years. I on the other hand do not wear them, I want more clothes for less money. Lol
It is up to you, and the prices are up to you, you can get things on sale, and some stores here have discounted nice things. I would give them so much money, and they would choose what they got. If they wanted a really expensive article of clothing, they might get it, then spend less on their other items. Or you can go to a re-sale and come up with really cool ideas. Everyone is different.
Oh, and we head for the cleance rack first. You can get those clothes for the same price as ones that are not name brand.

My older kids are old enough to pick there own clothes out....some are name brand....some are not.......It does not matter to me as long as what they are wearing is tasteful.

When andrew start's school next year it will be uniform's and i will buy the cheapest one's as when kid's grow they dont stay in there clothes for long,as long as your child look's clean and smart for school i dont see a problem.

Mike goes to junior High this year so I think I'll get some nme Brand clothes...I know in nebraska where we came from it was highly important to have some name brand clothes...here its a farming community so we have a few farm kids and the presure isnt as bad...I know american Eagle is popular and thought I would ask my oldest some if he had something to get rid of...and we would go shopping a pick up a couple things also...As for the shoes I think thats the most important at his age...Anyone have advice on that????? as for kate she will be in 5th and she still can get away with cute walmart and Target clothes...Thank goodness....My Mom and I are going shopping Thursday in the city for shoes for school.

My kids don't really care what they wear, yet......right now I buy what they like, maybe wal mart, maybe gap, maybe where ever we are shopping that day. I won't pay the high prices though, if they find something brand name and it's not on sale it either goes back for Christmas or birthday, or they wait till it goes on sale. I have splurged a few times though, just not that often.

When Curtis was little I bought the cheapest things on the clearance rack b/c I could get away with it. But now he knows what he likes and that's what he wants and there is no compromise but he is willing to help pay for the expensive stuff so I'm o.k. with it.

This is the first year that I have gone over board with the name brand stuff. But I got most of it on sale! Our daughter is in 6th and our oldest son is in 5th. I got them some great deals on the abercrombie kids web site. Shirts for $12... jeans for $30. Our daughter likes Roxy and our son likes Volcom. I was able to get them a bunch of shirts from Ross. Now the shoes are a dif. story! 2 pairs of shoes (one for each) $130.00... thats crazy! They are Etnies...
My husband never got nice things when he was younger and says that he works hard so our kids can. He has no problem paying the high prices for things... while I look over his shoulder and cringe!
