Hi all,
hope that you are all well & happy :-)

I was given a couple Netherland Dwarfs & when they brought them to us they ere in transport box for over 2 hours, then we had them in the same hutch of the night untill we got the 2nd hutch then next day,

anyway that was around 5 weeks ago, the guy who gave us the rabbits said that he didnt think it was mating season anyway, which was a relief to me cause I have no idea on how to breed them anyway,

a few days ago I had to put them both together so I can clean out their hutches individually & I saw the male rabbit trying to you know what lol & she was refusing like crazy but he caught her & my Goodness I felt sorry for her & wanted to cry,

now I know why the saying says (at it like rabbits lmao!!)

anyway, heres my question,,, today again was cleaning time but before I could even get to the females hutch she was not in there, her hutch door was open so im thinking my 2 yr old let her out!!

she was hiding under kids cubby house,

we have not been able to catch her all day & now all night,
its 11.30pm & I keep checking on her & she is just happily sitting there staring into the house sitting on the grass,
not even celery or cabbage is of interest to her right now & she has gotten out before when I let them have a play for excersise but this time its been impossible to catch her!
im worried sick because I'm scared about possible cats also what if she digs a hole into our two neighbours yards where there are dogs ;-(

but I also noticed she had dug a pretty big hole under the tree, could she be pregnant & about to give birth & if so is it safe that these baby rabbits are left in the hole untill morning time, thats if shes pregnant & if she goes tonight!

she does look quite big so im pretty sure she is carrying,

please help & sorry so long!

thanks heaps :-)

I think rabbits are pregnant for about a month or so.... ??? and you said it happened only a few days ago, so i don't know....

maybe you should try and set up some kind of trap or something before she becomes someones dinner...lol...

good luck!!!! :-)

Yes Goldi Bmes is rite a rabbits gestation period is only 4 weeks. It is possible shes looking for a place to give birth. have you tried luring her with cereal or some thing more tantalizing then vegetable greens?

also did you know that they can get pregnant while already pregnant? They actually have two lobes that they can carry babies in at the same time. It is very hard on them to be put through that and most of the time the older litter will survive but the younger littler really has no chance due to the fact the mother just cant care for two litters that have such different needs. So if you are not wanting to hurt her and you don't want to have bunches of little rabbits around you could always have one or both of them fixed! or keep them away from each other all the time. Having your male neutered should be rather cheap.

I have tried to contact the owner (the guy) that gave them to us, because no she hasnt had her babies yet & she is very fat & im really worried cause im sooo praying she doesnt lose her babies & puts her in a lot of pain,

do i let her out of the hutch to run around the yard & have her babies?

doing that also scares me cause she eats all the vegies from the garden & this causes her to get diarrreah & very unwell,

she ate all my brocoli tree & got so sick,

what do i do, anyone know or give me advice please!!

thank you xxx

Goldi you posted this thread around the ninth and at that time you said you thought she you thought she was already pregnant for a couple weeks. Rabbits only carry there babies for about 31 days so either you miss calculated the time you thought she got pregnant and she's real close to being due or she's not pregnant and possibly just getting fat. Another thought...I'm not sure if this is possible, but I wonder if she could be pregnant and the baby have died causing her not to contract. I would have her checked out by a vet to be sure there's nothing wrong. I wouldn't suggest letting her out to roam especially if she is ready to birth.

Do you know about how many days you had her when you posted the thread here? it seems to long of a time for her to have not had her babies.
