When did everyone move their "babies' into toddler beds?
Silas will be 2 in January and I'm wondering if 2 is an appropriate age to switch it up or if I should have done it six months ago or what.

To me he's still a baby but those are my "mom eyes" that see that. In reality he's a fully functioning toddler who is too smart for his own good.

I think many make the transfer when the child starts climbing over the top of the crib rails. The crib becomes a danger once they learn how to climb out.

He's been able to climb out for months now. He's only done it twice.
Most of the time when he wakes up in the morning or from a nap he just plays in his crib with his teddies.

I don't know if that means he's not ready or if that's a good sign that he's "mature" enough to handle a toddler bed.

Sometimes I forget how young he is because he seems like a six year old with a speech impediment.

Every one I know with young children have always transitioned them when they were able to clime over the rails. My niece only 1.5 years climbed over the rails, she fell need stitches to her head.

Maybe I'll take him out this weekend and let him pick out some new bedding.
Then I'll convert the crib into the toddler bed and put all of his new bedding on it.
Its worth a try I suppose.
If he hates it after a few days then I'll switch it back to the crib until he's ready to give it another try.

I found keeping them in the bed is the hardest part of the transition. You will probably have to place him back in several times before he finally stays down for the night. Once they are placed in a bed it is the beginning to a whole new parenting experience.

Once in a bed mum has to have hawk eyes and ears of a dog. Now they can get out on their own, and they will! If not seen or heard.... I need not say what can happen, we all know the dangers toddlers can get in to.

Transitioning to a bed shouldn't be solely based on age all children develop differently. My sister kept her son in a crib until he was 3 years old, Why? because he never climbed the rails. My sister found it was much safer for him to be in the crib then having the ability to get out of a bed.

Derek went into a toddler bed around 1.5 and Cadie had to be in one at around 8 months due to the fact that Derek and her shared a room and he would climb into the crib with her and squish her up against the side of the crib. She couldn't get out of the crib so we put her in a toddler bed so she could escape from her "mean ol' brother" We haven't had any problems with them in toddler beds. Just make sure his room is "babyproofed" and you should be good to go.

I put Anika in a toddler bed at 18 months...only problem I had was that she is a very squirmy sleeper....so we had to get her a double bed....acutally it's a futon, so it's still nice and low to the ground. but she NEVER had a problem leaving the crib behind....she LOVES her big bed. lol...

Lex right now is 16 months. he NEVER liked the crib, so he's been sleeping in the play pen...lol....but NOW, he throws himself out of it....nope...he doesn't climb....he literally flings himself out...lol....so...after this weekend i'm going to TRY putting him in a toddler bed, even though i think he's soooooo not ready for it, but what else am i going to do? he's going to land on his head one of these days....

i did it w braden at about 15 months. he sleeps in it for about4-5 hours then wakes up. we did however put a door gate up so he cant get up and then we wake up to get him. also every night we clear his room and put everything away so he doesnt get into or trip over anything.

I was 1.3 years when I was moved from a cot/crib to a single bed.

But my nephew is almost 3 and is still in his cotbed.

I'm playing it by ear with Joey. He's almost 14 months and is perfectly happy in his cot/crib.
