The next door neighbours have gotten themselves three chickens which they are keeping in their front garden.

They are keeping said chickens in a small 'A frame' structure which is placed onto the grass.

They went away last week and said that their relatives would be down to feed them and keep an eye on them.

So far, the relatives have done sweet FA apart from go and look at the birds.

I've cleaned them out twice with sawshavings and straw that I had to go out and buy myself. They've now run out of food and I don't know where you buy chicken food round here, so we've had to improvise with giving them wild bird food and some muesli that my husband has found in the cupboard.

I don't know when the neighbours are due to return to give them their proper food.

THIS IS WANTON CHICKEN NEGLECT AND I AM VERY ANGRY ABOUT THIS!

Why have they gone away without providing them with proper care and why are they housing them in something that is only fit for bantams or one broody hen with chicks?

I am so fed up as I like animals to be properly cared for. When we go away I arrange for somebody to come in every day and feed my animals and I pay them and leave plenty of food 'n' stuff out for them.

I AM SO DISGUSTED.

I don't know why the hell they've got these chickens and they could live up to 10 years and I just can't see them coping with them. They seem to have NO idea of what they're doing at all. They don't have kids and they go away a lot, so I'm expecting repeats of this situation in the future.

The Chicken Liberation Front needs to come and take them away I think.

I would call someone for sure.
It's animal abuse for them to just leave them there.
If they arranged for their relatives to come then they should make sure their relatives are reliable and make it clear what needs to be done to care for them.

It's not your responsibility to look after them, although I would have done the same thing if I were in that situation.

i would first try and get a hold of the owners of these chickens (if possible), and let them know that the people they put in charge of looking after their chickens isn't doing their job, and if they don't do anything to fix it you'll phone the proper people to come and get the chickens.

that is so mean. but you never know....maybe these relatives don't know just HOW MUCH work it is to look after chickens and just think they are fine....maybe when you see them come around next time tell them that they need to come around more often...that it's not just a once a week type thing....

hope you get it all sorted out. poor chickens...

That's terrible! I don't do this much these days but, I have to say...I agree with Joeys_Mam.
