I knew about the red light on cars, but not the *77
It was about 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have always told her never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc.

Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called *77 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where s he was and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.

Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.

I never knew about the *77 Cell Phone Feature, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a safe place.

*Speaking to a service representative at ** Bell ** Mobility confirmed that *77 was a direct link to State trooper info. So, now it's your turn to let your friends know about *77.

Send this to every woman (and person) you know; it may save a life. This applies to ALL 50 states.

This is an urban legend *77 only works in a few places. Dial 911.

I am just passing it along, is it true I don't know? I have heard many people have received the same info via email.

If it is true I would rather have direct a direct number to the highway patrol then to have to contact the 911 emergency service and have to wait for them to contact the highway patrol.

it does work in a few places, like 3. I think maryland is one of them. Some places its #77, but the best bet is to call 911 works in MOST places. That url I posted hsows where *77 actually does work.

When I travel I see different numbers on signs going along the highway that tell you of numbers to call for that connect you to the highway patrol. In Ohio I believe it is something like that but here in an article on it for here

While on the road if dial *77 from my cell phone will I get the Ohio State Highway Patrol?

There is no application for law enforcement agencies in Ohio utilizing the *77 number on your cell phone.

The Ohio State Patrol has a toll free hotline at 1-877-7PATROL. Dialing this phone number on your cellular phone will connect you with the closest patrol post in the area in which you are traveling through, and will dispatch an Ohio State Trooper to render assistance.

In addition to the *77, there is also information about *65 providing the same feature, again there is no application in Ohio.

If you need assistance while you are traveling call 1-877-7PATROL.

I wonder if they have something like that in Canada.

I never would have thought to not trust an unmarked car...man I can be so friggin' ignorant sometimes.

At least I know now!!!

Those sneaky bastards!!!

I've seen them here in friggin' soccer mom mini vans. Not even nice new ones, like actual soccer mom vans...pretty sure there's a duffel bag full of balls and shin guards and ice cream buckets full of orange slices in the back.ha ha ha!

Wait...can't THEY get fined for driving with an L and not actually needing it? Unless the cop was driving with a licensed adult over the age of 25.....

Ok so the L is for a learner? And what is an N for and how do you attach them to your car? We don't mark the vehicles like that here.
