Help! My 3 year old daughter will not stop wetting the bed. She has been potty trained since she was 2 and was doing great. All of the sudden she started wetting her bed again. My husband and I are considering pullups at night again. Any suggestions???

Don't do pull-ups!!!! Everyone that I know that puts their little ones to sleep in pull-ups, still have bed wetting problem. I know one person who has a 7 and 6 year old still wetting the bed. I think that they get it into their head that they can wet in the pull ups, so they do.
Is there anything new in your life that would cause you little one stress, could she have an infection, are you cutting off liquids??? There could be a few reasons for it.

I agree with momof3...don't do pull-ups...she'll just think it's alright to wet the bed at night. I would try cutting liquids about an hour or so before bedtime. If you didn't already. Plus if she can go back to sleep easily, try waking her up half way through the night to go pee. She's probably waking up anyway when she wets the bed....good luck.

Here is an example. My friends and I were just talking about this, and this just may be a concidense(sp) but everyone that we have talked to that has bed wetting problems put their little ones in pull-ups when potty training, one of my little daycare kids wheres pull-ups to bed. Some morinings he is still in his p.j.s and some days he is dress. Well first thing after breakfast he goes to the bathroom and goes poddy, WHEN he is dressed. If heis still in his pull-up he just goes in it!!!

try no liquids close to bed time, that could help or encourage in the middle of night to go the bathroom like after 2 hours of putting her to bed as if she has to go to the bathroom and makes sure she knows it ok to say she has to go in the middle of night

Both my kids wet the bed 15 & 13 yrs ols . Samantha has an alarm in her room towake her up to go to the bathroom. She has an under devleoped baldder and spinal bifita mild case. Michael is bipolar and he sleeps right throught the alrm due to the meds he is on So we have to get up and bring in to the bathroom every night.
To help may set an alarm one that they have to get up to turn off.
ALso no drinks after 8 pm.
To help withthe clean up and save the mattress we have a matterss cover and under the fitted sheet I have a flannelled backed plastic table cloth ...from the dollar store. Put on flannel side up fopr comfort and if the wet out it goes.
I know pull ups are easier ...for us but I do not think it teaches the kid the right behavior....Just my 2 cents

Thank you all for your suggestions. It looks like pullups are out. I have tried almost every thing except waking her up in the middle of the night. I don't know why though, it seems like a no brainer! Thank you again!

Try lifting her at about 10pm and putting her on the toilet even if she is still asleep!
Or do it before you go to bed!

as embarassing as this may be to admit...I wet the bed till i was probably 9 or so...give or take a few years...my brother did too...and my mother did also...no matter what anyone did...we could not control it...we just had to suffer and prtect our bed....not saying this is the case but one day it just stopped for all of us...out of the blue...i remember my grandma got fed up when we'd visit and she put a depends on me when i was like 8 years old...Crazy lady...it was embarassing and didn't help my self esteem...just prtected her bed...but the damage it did to me...i know your child is only 3 but she will have accidents...and since she is out of diapers...it should stay that way...but you know...

momo
i had a cousin who wet the bed till he was in his teens....my aunty did the same as your grandma...i was so embarrassed for him..we all pretended we didnt notice.

Heather
if it is a physical problem ...like momo or my cousin...nothing is going to cure it....not getting up, not stopping the liquids.... nothing. but as she is still only three i would try all the above first, if none of them work...i would use the pullups to stop the stress.
Is she wetting during the night...or near the morning?
One other thing i found that causes bedwetting...is the cold.
Make sure she is warm during the night and try and get up in the morning before her...to get her to the toilet

She does all the time, all hours of the night. She was doing great in the beginning but out of the blue one night she started wetting herself again. She doesn't like to wear clothes either. Sometimes I wonder if she wets herself just so she doesn't have to wear anything!

the cold will do it....maybe naked in one of those sleepbag tops?

Marija, well that ios what the x says. I feel so bad for the kid when they wet. They are so embarassed. I jsy say oh well it was time to wash the sheets anyway....NO biggy!
I feel bad cuae sometimes I do not wack up in time to get Michael up. Like I cannot fall asleep untill 1 ot 2 jsut in time to get him up ...what can you do but your best.

Are you hungery all the time from this dsorder.Samantha acts like she has a tape worms ...an entire family . I watch her ...I do not want her to over eat ana make herself ill . She has done that before.. Belly ach from too much food. SHe is an average size kid but is not active enought to eat thay much
I do not want to end up on that show .,..Honey we are killing our kids.

I have a confession. I wet the bed until I was 13!! Not sure if it was from a weak bladder, or troubles in the household (I was abused). It was horrible and so humilating for me. I would get punished for it every time it happened too. Maybe use a plastic sheet, I would not recommend pull ups though. It will allow her to feel too comfortable with going. Good luck!

I just read what momof3 stated, I agree with the "getting it in their heads that it is okay to go"!
