my other child, my 8 month old pomerianan, got ran over last night and died. it's a long story but to make it short, my husband was outside and i stepped out to ask him something and my son wanted to come so he opened the front door to walk out and let lacy (my dog) out. of course she ran and went across the street. i was about to be on my way to get her and she just started running back and when she did a car was coming and well, you know the rest. i seen everything...my first thought was to scream, which i did, and take my son and me into the house. my husband came in about 20 minutes later and she was had died and he had buried her. i just cried and cried, i didn't know what else to do...i've never seen anything like that before and that's something i don't ever want to see again. it wasn't her fault, she didn't know any better, b/c when she's outside she was always on a leash or i was holding her. i just kept telling myself over and over again, if i had went over there sooner, she wouldn't have wanted to come back across the road, she was coming back to me when she was running back. it's just so sad, she was just a baby, she hadn't even reached her first birthday. my son has already been looking around for her this morning like he does every morning.

Oh, I'm sorry.....that's so sad :-(

It's an awful shock when animals have accidents and are killed like that.

If it's any consolation she wouldn't have felt anything.

thanks atomic, i knew she didn't feel anything, i knew as soon as the car hit her she was gone, she was laying on her back. i don't even think that if she had been bigger it would have helped. she only weighed 3 pounds. she was treated as one of the family, she just wasn't a dog. my husband had to take her crate and toys away so i wouldn't see them his morning.

She'll have known that you took good care of her and loved her. Animals know when their owners care about them.

I am so sorry you lost your pet but even more sorry you had to witness it : (
I lost a little puppy when I was about seven yrs old - it was laying under my neighbor's car (behind the wheel) & he left early that morning & didn't know it was there & ran over it. I went out looking for it & saw it laying in their driveway. I cried and cried.

that must of been horrific for you..so sorry to hear this. What are you going to do about your son? how old is he again???

Are you going to tell them...or make up a story? do you think you will replace your dog.

thanks everyone, i really apprecaite it. all day yesterday i was just waiting for her to come running up to me. it's just really sad not having her around.

my son (he's 2) seen what happened but he's ok. he just wasn't himself yesterday. he kept going into the other room calling out for her (he calls her baby...always has, he would come up to her and rub her and say baby). i just explanied to him that she's in doggy heaven running around and she's not going to be with us anymore. i really didn't know what to tell him, but this morning he's seems fine though. he's running around being himself as usual.

my husband told me last night when i got ready to get another one that was fine with him. i do want another pomerianan, she was the best dog i've ever had, but not anytime soon, i need some time to get over this one.

but the one thing that really makes me madder than hell was the fact that when the car hit her, they didn't even stop, slow down or hit the brakes, they just plowed into her and kept going. these people live on my street, i know they do, i see that car 20 times a day. i could never do that, be that disrepectable to someone like that. they seen me outside, and they heard me screaming, heck, just about all my neighbors came outside to see what was going on. people can be so mean.
