OK so I have 3 yr old boy whom I've been trying to potty train forever now and it's an uphill battle that I'm getting no where with. He refuses to give this a chance, I've had him in pull ups since he was 2 and I still have to make him stop what hes doing and remind him to go pee, he will not tell me when hes gotta go. But trying to get him to poop is a whole other battle...he kicks screams, trys to squirm out of my arms, holds the bathroom door trying to not have to go in, and finnally after I break a sweat all to put on on the potty he will not go, and no matter how much I watch him, he still snaeks off and does business in his pull ups. I've tried all the little tricks like having him pee in food coloring in the potty, sinking the cheerio, bribing w/ a shopping trip, candy for peeing, and letting him pick out big boy underware, I've even tried unreccomended tactics such as fuss at him and threaten to give him time outs or take away a toy.
As mean as it sounds I'm at my wits end w/ the whole thing and I bought him girl pull ups and told him he had to wear girls panies if he wasn't going to act like a big boy and use the potty, and he hated it at first and now he doesn't even notice!!!!!

PLEASE HELP ME MAKE MY KID USE THE TOILET....I'M TIRED OF WIPING POOP OFF A 3 1/2YR OLD BOYS BOTTOM!!!!!!!

Get RID of the pull ups mom!!!!!!!!! Kids have an instinct for knowing that those things are still a diaper....just by the sound and the feel.

Around the house...use underpants. Let him....'experience' if you will.....the real meaning of the word.....poop.

Take a step back...and when he comes to you....be calm. Ask him...well how do ya feel...(gentle in tone of course) but a bit of screwed up face........"uncomfortable???" yeah...welll...if you just go to the potty...and do the job there....thingy is....you wont feel like that. Fresh and clean will you feel when your all done!

Until he 'gets it' and ..........has some experience.....WHY would he consider doing this for himself!!!! The "diaper" works just fine?????? WHY...move on. Maybe use it when your out...but when home...off and on with underpants.

Yup...you will have accidents all over the place...but he WILL....get it.

Good luck mom....and...hold tight others will have other suggestions.

My darling wonderful M25!!!!!! How the hell are you????

Colin has continuously been pooping in his pants for about 5 months now. No... not in pullup... not in diapers... not on the potty.. But dear God in HIS UNDERWEAR!!!! It is revolting, smelly and HE DOESN"T CARE!!!!! He never tells me when he has to go, OR if he HAS gone.... Just smell the retched foulness eminating from the living room. Just lately, in the last 2 or 3 weeks he has finally decided that pooping in the pot (his potty chair) was pretty cool... Don't have a clue why, I just did the whole you have to wear a diaper if you are going to poop in your pants, and be a baby... I tried everything too, even the ignoring it and hoping it would correct itself thing. He still wears a diaper at night for bed but now I am elated with the blissful sound of "MOMMY I HAVE TO GO POOP!!!!!"

if you absolutely need them say going out/ bed time.....put them OVER underwear, so wettness can really be felt

My advice to you is to leave it for a bit,i had the same kinda of problem with andrew,i found that the more i pushed him to do it the more he went the other way.

I even spoke to the health vistor about it as i was worried, that is what she told me.
Andrew is now 3 1/2 and dry during the day,and for the past two nights he has been dry as well.

I think that kid's will do it when they are ready.
I mean how many kid's do you see starting school in nappies?

Noah is 21 months and fully potty trained... the only problems he has is at night sometimes. I got advice from my SILs since they both had all their kids PT'd in 3 days. This is what I did. I brought his little potty chair into the living roomand put him on it as soon as he woke up. He didn't get up until he went. When he went I made a huge deal out of it. Then for the next 15 minutes I gave him as much liquids as he'd drink. After the 15 mnutes were up he went back on the potty and stayed there until he went. I did that all day long for 3 days... only used pull ups at night. By day 4 he was in big boy undies all day and telling me when he had to go... sometimes I'd have to ask him if he hadn't said anything in a while, but usually he'd say popo when he had to go. We started potty training on the first of the year and have been accident free except for at night since the middle of January. That method is a lot of work (especially since I have a 5 month old as well) and not the most fun for either the kid or the parent, but it worked really well, so it must have some merits!!

I made Colin take a few pairs of his poopy undies to the toilet himself... He started to get it...

omg ladies this may have been the answer the whole time so far so good, only 2 pee accidents yesterday, one during nap which wasn't bad because I took your advice and put his pull over his clothes, and the other one was when he was playing in the toyroom and I waited to long to remind him. But I do think hes holding his poop as to not go in the potty, we'll see how that goes today, also I did still have to tell him alday to go, but this time, w/ the underware, he had more interest and stayed dry!!!!! YAY!!!
I have lots of erans to run this morn. so I feel bad but back in pull ups untill we get home!

THANKS FOR ALL THE USEFUL ADVICE!!!!
