in general i think all police woman are useless out on the road
i think people with chips on their shoulders gravitate towards the police force...so that when they come out of the academy they think they have a superman badge on.
just had this arguement for the 100th time with my husband...
i want to know if anyone else out there thinks the same?

I personally have all the respect in the world for police officers. I was raised by a police officer and have worked side by side with them during my career on the ambulance, including woman. In fact I have seen woman police officers handle themselves better than some of the make officers. I think anyone that chooses a career that puts their own life in danger to help others deserves all the respect in the world.

Oh and I wasn't saying any of that in a snotty or rude manor in case it read that way. I am just really sensitive about such topics.

well since so much of or family is in the force.....shucks. But the new guys yeah they are kinda like that....its scary actually, for everyone. Women I have only met one.....who doesnt look "butch" for lack of a better way to put it. And the experienced guys like the ones in my family...the ears and eyes are ALWAYS at work. Like little radar beacons...I always give them a hard time about it too....their really good.....they just laugh .......cuz they know its true!

No problem!!! Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I go around and around with my grandfather about this very topic all the time. If fact we didn't talk for a week when he said he was tired of all the police, fireman, and paramedics that died in 9/11 being called heros. He said that it was their job. So I asked him why soldiers where heros in his eyes, they knew the risk too! (Just so everyone know I think that all soliders are heros as well as every fireman, police man, and paramedic. As well as doctors and nurses)

We dealt with a really nice cop when we were taking my son to the ER last year...he knocked himself out cold on the coffee table. My husband was going about 80mph in a 55mph. I'm in the back trying to get my son's nose to stop bleeding and he didn't even ask to see my husband's id. He just told us to go and be careful.

I have full respect for the police.....The job they do deserves a lot of respect.......I do not think they have chips on there shoulders....I think they carry an attitude that is nessecary in there line of work

our police force is not as scary as yours....in fact i would say it was more like your county sheriffs. the risk danger factor is always there...but not every police person will get to see a death by homicide...My husband always said he would hate to be a policeman in the US...he did however want to be a Mountie...but i think its because of the uniform...LOL
police women where i live are nearly all are lesbians...im not guessing either...theyre all quite vocal on the matter.
lesbian or not doesnt really matter...just trying to paint a picture of who gravitates to the police force here...what type of person.
To me a lesbian who is a policewoman wants the power a man can get from just being a man...physical power. A policewoman can get that power simply by wearing the uniform.
Does not make them any more physically powerful...which to me makes them dangerous. they go into something all puffed up and rearing to go at it ...only to find they let themselves and there poor partner down.

Hey Maxie....they people are loving your uniform...lol

Just to put in my two cents on the matter....I do believe every soldier is a hero. Every fireman (hubby was) every experienced good policeperson too ...and those trying to learn to be. Every paramedic....(i say a quick prayer everytime i see one for everyone who might be involved.....could be me or my family ya know).

quick e.g on heroism...give me your thoughts :-)
hubby had a gun to his head while he talked a man out of letting go a bunch of shoppers...kids included.
he was recommended for a commissioners medal (highest award here)...he recieved a commissioners certificate (the bridesmaid)
on the same day a policeman received a commissioners medal for being shot by a stray bullet as he sheilded himself behind a tree...there was no gun fight only one stray bullet
who is the hero here?

Name: winnmom | Date: Jan 9th, 2007 2:04 AM
I think both are heros.....

Name: winnmom | Date: Jan 9th, 2007 2:05 AM
Marija that was very heroic of your Hubby!!!!

Name: marija | Date: Jan 9th, 2007 2:14 AM
to me a hero ...who will put his life at stake in order to save others.
to me the officer that was hit was a casulty of his job.

i may be biased as it was my husband but i think if you put 2 different people in the same position and i would think the same!
i would like to footnote that with a little more info which will probably change a few views
only 2 medals are issued per year...sometimes none (have to keep the eliteness of them up)
that particular year 1 had already been issued...on this day hubby and this other policeman were the only ones...the policeman who was awarded the medal....was a senior superintendants son...Politics...a winner everytime

Name: momof3 | Date: Jan 9th, 2007 2:26 AM
Okay, first that was very brave of your husband!!! It takes a hell of a person to step in like that, and it is not fair what they did with the medal. BUT, in my eyes yes you husband is a hero, but that police officer is too.
Do you know that from an early age, I knew that when my dad walked out that door in his uniform that there was a chance something could happen to him, and I would wait up to hear that squad car pull into the drive. Public servants rish their lives everyday to help people and let me assure you they don't make great money. My father loved being a police officer, but he only did it part time due to the pay. But he work minium of 4 nights a week it was his love. I have had threats made against my dad. It literally breaks my heart to hear how people don't respect these indiviuals. It really does. I am not trying to disrespect your opinion marija cause I really like you. I just REALLY disagree with you on this one and I am going to walk away so nothing is said that will be regretted.
See ya on another post!

its ok momof3...
really... i will not get offended by what you have to say....if you leave this conversation then leave because what i am saying offends you...not because of anything you have to say back.
i am only going on my experience, i will never have a dig at someone because their view differs from mine...i can only share my experience and opinions back. :-)

ok just catching up....politics of it......yes...all the time.....its so full of that inside very much so.....you are so correct. It was the casulty of the job. To me, on that particular day.....on that day....it was your husband who should have received that particular award. The other man is a hero also, day to day regardless his standing. But here we see a classic example of nepotisium at it finest. Politics within the department is just like anywhere else it just seems worse because it is the police.

I personally don't like police officers! Not where I live anyway! i think it's unfair that just beacause they are police officers they think that they have there own certain rules and don't have to follow any of the road rules here.. We have like a one lane wharf that you can drive down and one side of the traffic pulls over to give way to cars coming down the other side.. Well recnetly me and my partner were driving down there and a police officers was coming down the other way. They had to give way to us but failed to do so.. We had to pull over just because they were police officers and let them threw! I think thats is just wrong that they think they can do what they like because of who they are!

ok ...just want to say...my post was pretty strong and maybe too generalised...it is my opinion..an opinion based on my experience.
I worked in police cells dealing with female prisoners.
It was also a training ground for new police officers straight out of the academy...i have literally been around hundreds of police men and women!
policewomen who have put MY life at risk because they think the uniform will protect them...
policewomen who couldnt do simple tasks because they needed a policeman with them to do it....
policemen who have then been put in danger because their only back up has been a 5' woman with attitude..(this scenario i saw daily)
Policemen who are short / fat / balding / have glasses / nerds / ugly....some sort of victim of bullying when young...just push non-police around.... for no other reason other than they can!! and ive seen them beat them up also for no other reason other than they can...i saw this daily for almost 6years.

There are also great policemen and woman out there...i wouldnt of married one if i thought all police were like this. it gets on my goat that they are getting harder and harder to find.
our pay system here for the policeforce is fantastic...thanks to the union...they get a great pay and 9weeks off each year...and alot of other perks....the policeforce is very much upper middle class...(exceptions being us...LOL...we just lost our air con...so we have been demoted to lower class :-(..)
Now the older policeman and women are leaving in droves...there is no trust, no bonds, no brotherhood. I have never been a fan of the brotherhood style, but understood it if you need to trust your partner..

finally why i still view most police like this still...after so many years
the two times my husband had to picked up from the hospital with injuries from domestics....his partner was female...from his mouth he said all she did was flare the situation and then ran to the car and called for back-up...meanwhile he gets his arse kicked solidly until then!!....thank god for pepper spray otherwise god knows how bad he would of been.
and also my runins with the supermen on duty....but thats another story...and this one is already a ..."i'll skim over that ...too boring"..post :-))))

Seeing that I'm shagging one (my hubby that is) I guess I have to think highly of them. Kidding aside, I think that they do get a hard time for the effort that they put in. I'm only speaking from experience but my hubby goes in on his time off to catch up on paper work, at his expense. He is very often verbally abused by the public. He deals with death a lot. Unfortunately his job calls him away from his family often.
I do think some of them put on the uniform and it gives them a bit of a complex ( traffic cops being the worst) but for the most part they do it because at there core it makes them proud to serve the public.
I do think women play a vital role when it comes to policing but I do have this one complaint. There have been three separate occasions where my husband has been in a sticky situation. 10 on 2 if you get my drift. The other person by his side these three times have been women. Once she was knocked out by a man and my hubby had to fend for himself while waiting for back up. (That was in Scotland) Another time she got out her CS spray and ended up spraying more on my hubby then at the perp. Just the other day my hubby was attacked by a really big guy in cells, from what I gather she was to busy fumbling for spray while she should have been in the midst. That would be my only complaint when it comes to female officers.
P.S. Marija my husband is a mounty. Mmmmm stirrups and the stetson, and when he's dressed the red surge isn't bad either! ; )

I only have ever come across 1 bad cop. Although I havent met that many and he was in a ute (probably on his way to work) in uniform and sitting up my arse at a set of traffic lights. We were both turning right and when we turned he sat on the bumper of my car, so close I could just about see up his nose. Then he overtook me as we were turning and I looked at him and mouthed the word "jerk"

He put on his brakes like he was going to pull me over....but thought twice and kept on going. This guy lives in my area and every time I see him he gives me the filthiest look, like he is just waiting for me to do something wrong.

Hiddy, What an ass! I think you should finger him the next time you see him or flip him the Vicky. I wonder what he would do?

Name: Hiddy | Date: Jan 9th, 2007 9:43 AM
yeah, and he knows what he did was wrong, because he looked back at me when he was overtaking me

Another thing, I hate speeding. I NEVER warn people about speed cameras, I figure if they are stupid enough to do it, they should get caught.

I had to laugh at my husband Christmas day of 2005, He was speeding as he come off the gateway bridge, and this motorcycle cop pulled him over. The cop gave us a ticket and was really nice, shook my husbands hand and said Merry Christmas...lol

Im always on my husbands back about speeding.
