I have a nephew who is autistic. He is six. He has a half brother who is ten. I do not know what to do when I want to take my ten year nephew places, but I am afraid to take my six year old nephew. His mother gets upset, but I would not want anything to happen to him. Any advice?

This is painful for many parents. I have heard story after story where family member have nothing to do with the children who have autism, including grandparents. One thing that may help is to ask your sister how to look after the six year old. Spend several days with them learning about him, his condition, and how to handle the tough situations. Family members can be so helpful by learning as much as the parents, so you can help them out. They are under stress that needs relief. I think it is wonderful that you go to take your nephew out for the day, and to be honest, he could use the break to, but If you feel you cannot handle them both, explain your fears to your sister, and if possible you could alternate the children. If your nephew has therapy, make sure to visit, and watch his sessions. You can learn a great deal, and ask questions. I think you are great to help out. Thank you.

my son is 2 and diag with autism. What is normal 2yr old behavior and what is autism behavior? He screams when he does not get his way, (but no words), is attached to mommy and his bear bear etc... Could he be misdiag. just because hes NOT talking yet??
