Hello Tariece, lasst night (australian time) on SBS at 7.30 pm there was a show on tv about autistic children. The proffessor on the show said that there was no way of telling if you are carrying an autistic child. So try not to worry , yet i know that it is easier said than done! Do you have any relatives that are autistic?
Good luck, Lela

There are no test to determine austism before birth. You can have test run for genetic disorders, but not austim.

My child reacted to vaccines and became autistic. I would encourage you to research vaccines and if you do vaccinate... spread them out and make sure your child is taking cod liver oil. But even with that... some kids can't handle vaccines.

Hi : My name is Ruth, I don't know is this will help you but i watched on tv , i don't remember what show was, they were talking about kids with autism and they said the kids born 3 to 6 week early and that have a hard time nursing most likely will have some kind of problems specially if the mother had any problems with toxemia aks your doctor it won't hurt. My son was born 4 week early and he didn't nurse and on top of that have servere ears infection and he was diagnosed with high fuctional autism. I hope i answer your question

Hello Tariece. From what I read on multiple website, I do not think you can really tell if your child is autistic before birth. Some sources have suggested that the source MAY be of some genetic components. Perhaps looking into your family history as well as your husband's family history for some developmental delays or behavioral problems within any family members. It may give you a clue to your chances and risks....I hope this help.

Although there is no test it is likely that you are at a higher risk to have a child with autism if: you have a history of auto immune disorders such as, asthma, alzheimers, allergies, dislexia, the list is really very very long. But if you and your childs father have a big group of those in your history then you are at a higher risk. With that said...I really wouldn't worry. I know that having a child with autism is overwhelming initially, however, now that my son is 4 and i've had time to learn what him being autistic really means...i wouldn't change a thing. Don't be scared. If you did just happen to have a child with autism you should know that there are many many gifts that a child with autism will bring to your life that other children won't. Good luck!

no you can't tell yet. They have just released on the news this week that is GENETIC.....nothing to do with the mother. Don't buy into any quick recovery it want help, EARLY INTERVENTION is the key.

Tariece - I have recently heard that there is a place in Vancouver, B.C. Canada that is currently doing genetic testing for autism. It is the only one in Canada. Hope this helps. From what I hear they are finding a link associated with Fathers.
