I have a few breastfeeding questions.....I have five children my youngest is 8 weeks old, I have breastfeed before but I always supplemented with formula with my other children. This time I am only nursing no formula, and I was kinda wondering how long it is before you get your period back while nursing, also when do you know to wean the baby off the breast I have a friend whom is still nursing her 15 month old and I'm not sure thats for me at all. Also my baby only poops 1 time a week and her Dr. says thats normal for breastfeed babies, it just seems unatural to me does anyone else have this problem?!?!

HI....well i think for most people as long as you're breastfeeding alot of women don't get their periods back until they've totally weaned. There's no set time limit on breastfeeding. As long as you're comfortable doing it and baby is doing well with the breastfeeding then keep going. :-) I wanted to breastfeed for at least a year..but for me i'd be uncomfortable doing it any longer than that....breastfeeding a 2 year old for me personally just seemed not right. I remember when I breastfed Anika, she would poop only once every 7-10 days...she even went 2 weeks once....i thought it was not right either, but it is normal!! the most important thing to look at is how many wet diapers they're having in a day. About 6 good wet diapers is ideal.

OH awesome bmes, it's great to know that Emilee isn't the only one doing this I talked to her Dr. and he really is a great Dr. don't get me wrong but he's in his mid 70's and I was sorta starting to think he was losing his marbles! lol

breastfed babies can go up to 12 days without pooping before docs get concerned. with a baby as young as yours they intestines are still imiture(sp?) that is why they go longer.

i got my period back at when my son was around 9 months old. it varies for every woman. some have to totally wean before they get theirs back and some get it back right away and everything in between.

i am still nursing my 16 month old. but i know not everyone is comfy with that. the AAP suggest nursing for the 1st year. the WHO(world health org.) suggest the 1st 2 yrs. it really all depends on you. before i started nursing i never thought that i would be nursing a child this old but here i am still going strong. one thing that i love about it is he has only had 2 colds in his whole life. i will probably still pump for him when he weans though because he is allergic to cow's/goat's milk. his ped. says he might out grow it so i will keep giving my milk, until at least 3yrs old.
