uhm the hospital wont let you leave without one actually. so i told them my insurance, they went on the tricare site and printed out a list.. im actually gonna switch though .. ours was very impersonal and manly looking lol and they're trying to make us pay out of pocket for the shots, when tricare DOES cover them, they just want the money b.c they're losing if tricare covers b.c they wont profit.

A beer or a glass of wine will help milk production because it helps you relax... Just don't relax so much that you fall asleep... HA HA HA

A glass of wine will help the baby relax too... I remember when my daughter was 3 1/2 months old, first time with a babysitter and it was Mardi Gras... I was going to have a good damn time regardless... Got all dressed up and the baby sitter called in about an hour and a half with Alison hysterical.. I had a couple of drinks at the Ball and hubby stopped and got me a couple of "road pops" for the ride home... Alison and I slept well that night... HA HA HA

this is what google found me....if anyone cares lol

Not too many years ago it was common to hear nursing moms advised to have a drink in the evening to help them relax, and help their milk to flow. An ingredient in beer has been shown to increase maternal prolactin levels, but this is with non-alcoholic beers as well (DeRosa et al. 1981). There is a lot more involved in establishing an abundant milk supply than merely increasing a mother's prolactin level. Zuppa, in 1988, found prolactin levels to be higher in first time moms, while milk production was significantly higher in mother's who had previously given birth (with lower prolactin levels). They concluded that mammary gland receptors were responsible for this increase in milk supply, so the receptors, rather than the prolactin were responsible for an abundant milk supply.

Sounds like ample reason to drink a beer to me... Of course I don't see much reason NOT to.... HA HA HA

Little FYI

Breastfeeding and Alcohol
By Kelly Bonyata, IBCLC

Guidelines
Current research says that occasional use of alcohol (1-2 drinks) is not harmful to the nursing baby. The American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Drugs classifies alcohol (ethanol) as a “Maternal Medication Usually Compatible With Breastfeeding.”
Many experts recommend against drinking more than 1-2 drinks per week.
It is recommended that nursing moms avoid breastfeeding during and for 2-3 hours after drinking (Hale 2002).
There is no need to pump & dump milk after drinking alcohol, other than for mom's comfort -- pumping & dumping does not speed the elimination of alcohol from the milk.
Alcohol does not increase milk production, and has been shown to inhibit let-down and decrease milk production (see below).
If you're away from your baby, try to pump as often as baby usually nurses (this is to maintain milk supply, not because of the alcohol). At the very least, pump or hand express whenever you feel uncomfortably full - this will help you to avoid plugged ducts and mastitis.
In general, if you are sober enough to drive, you are sober enough to breastfeed. Less than 2% of the alcohol consumed by the mother reaches her blood and milk. Alcohol peaks in mom's blood and milk approximately 1/2-1 hour after drinking (but there is considerable variation from person to person, depending upon how much food was eaten in the same time period, mom's body weight and percentage of body fat, etc.). Alcohol does not accumulate in breastmilk, but leaves the milk as it leaves the blood; so when your blood alcohol levels are back down, so are your milk alcohol levels.

Always keep in mind the baby's age when considering the effect of alcohol. A newborn has a very immature liver, so minute amounts of alcohol would be more of a burden. Up until around 3 months of age, infants detoxify alcohol at around half the rate of an adult. An older baby or toddler can metabolize the alcohol more quickly.

Another little tid bit. Before I left the hospital, I was told by the nurses to get a beer so the baby would nurse. I went had a decent dinner and a beer and my baby fed for the first time. I swear by the beer method. LOL!

By the time the alcohol goes allllll the way through your body.. then into the breast milk and into his system... It is so filtered it won't hurt.. She didn't get drunk but everyone relaxed.... Sometime that is all you need... Just a break... Breastfeeding is one of the hardest things i have EVER done... Don't freak out... They aren't porcelain dolls.. Everything in moderation.... I smoked while I was preg and nursing... Three maybe four cigs a day.... Nothing over the top... A glass of wine or a beer will not hurt and it makes you feel like a grown up again and not a damn milking machine..

I have a friend from England who said that when new mothers were in the hospital they were given a Guiness not just for the alcohol but for the fun of it...
