Ive been thinking alot lately about labor and delievery.. im not at the very end of my pregnancy, im almost 26 weeks along, but the closer it gets the more nervous i get (: I read a little of this book my parents bought me in the begining of my pregnancy and in the back it talked about everything they do. well i was reading where it says they cut you when your having the baby naturally that way the baby doesnt split you down there. I was thinking about trying to have him naturally w/ out any meds but now once i heard how they cut you im kinda having second thoughts. that just sounds soo painful. Have any of you had this done w/ out any meds?

Yes sometime they do have to cut you when delivering naturally but this is not always the case. They will only do this if it seems as if it needs to be done.

most dr do not do that any more. Not all women tear and there are ways to help prevent tearing. Sometimes you so and that is jsut life. the dr will usually give you a local numbing medication if you choose not to have any IV drugs or and epidural. It used to be the standard thought that if the cut you and gave the baby more room then that would be better and easier to sew up then a tear. Most people do not believe this any longer. Ask you OBGYN how he feels about this procedure.

they sometimes have to cut you when u dont do it naturally, its b.c the baby will tear you, the give you a little incision so you dont get "torn a new one"

yeah..before and episiotomy was routine practice but now they only do it if its necessary or if you request it. I heard though that usually if you listen to your doc during labor and push when he says to push and stop pushing when he says to stop pushing usually you won't tear and they won't have to cut you. i'm not too sure on this but that's what i was told...i h ad to have a c-section so i never went through it!

episiotomy is where they cut you instead of letting you tear naturally.

and my mom told me not to get one, she said it was the worst part of having my brother. she said she healed so much fast and more comfortably with me and just tearing naturally. also your body will heal better with a natural tear. it doesn't know how to heal a perfect cut.

I wouldn't worry too much about the pain of an episioptomy if they do decide you require it, b/c labour if already pretty painful you won't even notice it.

My friend had one done and she said she didn't even know they cut her until afterwards. Said she didn't feel a thing. But she did say that going to the bathroom hurt. I have also heard that tearing is actually alot better then having them cut you. Not sure if this is true since I had a c-section with my son and opted to have one this time around as well.

My first was emergency C cec, and then i had 2 naturals, both I had Epesiotomys and I didnt think they were that bad.. Didnt hurt to pee or anything, bit uncomfy at first but I recon the worst part was how sore my body was from pushing.. And my lower back killed.. i could hardly sit down it hurt that much]] iam starting to feel alot of lower back pain now and Iam 35 weeks along.. Cant wait to have this baby though...Prepare for anything and dont think it will go exactly how you planned it becasue it doesnt...Not all the time..
