I can't even b happy about being pregnant cause of this. Maybe I'm over reacting. The doc said most people have them but usually never see a symptom. It sucks !!!!!!!!!

ive never heard of them being caused by pregnancy, i believe they are a form of herpes and you get them from people by being close to their face from kissing. my mom gets them, shes a politician she hugs and kisses alot of people

I get a lot of those infected taste buds when I'm pregnant. I have one right now on the tip of my tongue and it is so annoying and painful. I wish I could just cut it off or bite it off!

okay zoey9810, u made me feel better. I feel like I have an std, but i know its not. The doc said it is a form of herpes BUT its a huge distinction then from genital herpes. Its kinda like Shingles. Damn I'm a doctor. : )

mara its called a canker sore? lol they're very common in pregnancy, very common. stupid hormones. ive never heard of pregnancy related cold sores. they are indeed a form of herpes simplex 1. and they are contagious from person to person. by kissing and such.

no seriously i feel better. if your moms a politician and she is always in the public eye, and she deals w/ it, then i'm sure its not as bad as iam making it.

but would u call it an std ?

Name: Coartney | Date: Apr 17th, 2007 3:28 AM
herpes simplex 1 isnt the std. chicken pox are considered herpes also. look it up. alot of people get them.. but for different reasons, some people it was passed on and some people contract it from others.

oh. I did look it up, each site says something different. I'm gonna b a 1st time mom & i don't want to pass something on to my baby. Thats why I'm so concerned. But thanks everyone for answering my question.

my husband thinks i'm crazy for making a big deal of all this, but being prego has made me very sensitive. But i will get over it and move on, I have greater things to look forward to.

Yeah - I get them when I eat potato chips lol! But it's not a canker sore - it's different. I don't know how to describe it. Almost like I have a zit on my tongue.

yeh, not the gel kind but the actual white solid kind, take a little piece, not big and put it on there, it dries it out for some reason. or u can buy the stuff at the store for them. deoderant comes in handy thougb but beware ur lip will be white from it lol more so something to do in your own privacy lol

well cold sores are caused by the herpies virus and anything can trigger the virus to become active. Oddly enough it lays dormate in you spine and then sends signals to the nerve endings when it is active and that produces the nasty sore :) It is very common to get one after having an epidural if you have had them in the past. Also getting them when pregnant is common since you body is under stress and that is oftem times what triggers the virus to become active. Just use some over the counter stuff, but if you keep getting them then you can have your OBGYN prescribe you some valtrex to prevent them from coming. Yes the comerical for valtrex says it is ger the herpies that people get down below, but it works on simplex 1 also (the ones people get on their mouth)

I'd take that over the ugly awful itchy rash I had splashed across my right boob only for the first 15 weeks...gross. But my sister had canker sores all of the time with both her pregnancies. She used to get them on and off but like Jill said, her OB said being preggers just triggered them more so it was non stop for her., She got some prescription to help but I don't think it ever totally kept them from coming.

Any type of virus that you have in your body that can lay dormant or show no symptoms (such as herpes or warts, both STD's and non STD's kinds) can have an outbreak when your pregnant or under any other kind of high stress situations, or any time your immune system is weakend. So people can have these viruses in their bodies for months or years without ever showing any symptoms and then they'll show up suddenly. That's why the HPV virus (the warts and non-wart kind) is so widely spread, so many people have the virus but never even know.
