It tests for birth defects like Down's syndrome and Spina bifida in the serum in the mother's blood. It's a screening test, not a diagnoses. But if it comes back low-risk, as mine has done, it means the baby probably doesn't have a birth defect.

oh im pretty sure i turned that test down i was told i was low risk, and its usually rec. to women over 35. and alot of time they can be wrong soo whatever. lol

i mean if they come back positive that is, alot of the time its a false positive. they're very inaccurate.

yeah my doctor asked me if I wanted to do the test and I turned it down too!! there's a very low risk of my babies having it. there's nothing like that in my family and i'm well under 35. Plus, I asked myself....would it really change my mind about having the baby? no. so why bother? just my opinion. i'm not saying it's a bad thing to have tested. i personally just wouldn't do it!

you have to take iy around the 15-17 week mark zoey, and I thought it was called the qaud screening now? I hate that test they told me w/ my 2 year old that he prob. had downs and I was devastated over it but prepared myself for it and he is healthy and normal and they tried it w/ Emilee as well but this time I ignored it. They are not always acurate, but if you feel you want one go for it.

There are two different types, both quad and triple. I was only offered the Triple Test.

I turned it down for the same reasons as bmes....plus the fact that it can come up with false results, saying there's something wrong, and then there isn't....no point in worrying for nothing!

I say skip it,Im not gonna have an abortion or love the child any less if it is to be born with some kind of problem.I would rather not know.Because alot of the time they are wrong anyway. My Aunt had a false postive for downs and thought seriously about abortion but deciede not to and now has a beautiful baby girl...
