Puppy
struggles for life after being set on fire
Two-month-old Miracle survived, but her four littermates died; two were hogtied at west side house.

DETROIT -- A 2-month-old pit bull puppy was clinging to life Monday from burns she suffered after being set on fire in an abandoned house on the city's west side.
Miracle, a black, brown and tan puppy, was rescued from a home in the 7400 block of Faust on Saturday evening after some teenagers reportedly set her and her littermates on fire.
"We are really worried about the amount of burns on her body and about sepsis and infection setting in," said Jim Thompson, the director for the Oakland Veterinary Referral Services in Bloomfield Hills
The puppy suffered third-degree burns to 80 percent of her body.
"She's on antibiotics right now in case pneumonia develops and for the burns," said Dr. Karen Fidell, a veterinarian at the hospital where Miracle was taken.
"It's pretty pitiful that someone would do something like this," said Fidell.
A Detroit police officer who was one of the first on the scene of the rescue named her Miracle. Officer Jennifer Halfacer, a five-year veteran and her partner, Officer Calvin Davenport, were out on routine patrol when they heard a radio dispatch for a house fire in the 7400 block of Faust.
When they arrived at the house they heard the puppies' cries.
"We heard the puppies squealing and screaming," said Halfacer. "But we couldn't go upstairs where they were because of the flames."
When firefighters arrived, they were able to rescue Miracle. Her four littermates died in the fire. Two had been hogtied.
A witness told police of seeing several teens take the puppies into the house just before the fire began.
After unsuccessful attempts to locate a veterinarian on call in the city, Halfacer took the burned puppy to the Almost Home animal abuse shelter in Southfield, where she is a volunteer.
The puppy was later taken to the veterinary hospital in West Bloomfield.
"I was glad to see that she made it and that not all of them perished," said Halfacer about the puppies' ordeal. Miracle "actually survived. I can't believe she made it." ↓

this is truly a horrifying story, but similar things happen to humans all the time, So I say fix human abuse before worrying about animal abuse. I do not in any way try to justify what they did, but more attention should be given to humans suffering similar fates at the hands of foreign dictators.
If I wished to kill my dog for whatever reason I would shurly do somthing much more humane. ↑ |

We choose to discuss animal abuse here because we choose to care for those who can not speak, and this is a pet forum. we do not need you ridicule or your down play of a terrible act. The problem here is we can choose to humanely put animals to sleep these kids decided torture to be more amusing to them. You are in effect a terrorist yourself. Listen to this definition of a terrorist. A terrorist is an individual who uses violence, terror, and intimidation to achieve a result. Does this sound familliar? Also You would rather a clean kill than a bloody kill. I'm sorry my friend but killing is killing. By saying animals are below us you justifing hunting, and killing. Doesn't the bible say something along the lines of you shall not kill?? What gives you the right to take another's away? Killing may be a way to survive, but in this age. Simply put, the only brainwashed people here are those who say animals are equal to humans. I am a religious person and my lord says humans have dominion over the animals of the world. You say animals can't speak up for themselves, that is because they have no consciousness, soul if you will, they cannot speak becouse they are machines, like plants, we too are machines but our soul, if you will, guides it.

Yes, 10Calama you are correct, I am glad you know your religious quotes. Its just to bad you don't know what that quot really means. It is not to say that we human have the right to kill the animals. All it suggests is that we are there keepers, meaning to care for them. Killing is a sin... it is one of the 10 commandments, I'm sure you have learned that. But any way ....this isn't a place for religious topics it is a pet board so I don't want to go on to religion here.

Animals not being able to talk. That line right there is ridiculous!! We are simply too stupid to understand other forms of comunication. Like animal body language. I think there was a gorilla named Koko that was taught human sign language and used it to comunicated with her trainer meanfully.
Also being raised around cats I can pick up different feelings and moods of my cats almost psychically. I know in my heart with out a doubt that animals can comunicate and have a soul. This may be an opinion, but its an opinion based on a life time of listening and loving. ↑ |

gorrilas and parrots imitate, they don't understand. For instance if a gorrila lears if he makes an ok sign he gets a bannana. He doesn't know why, he just does. humans can however express deep intelectual thoughts, parrots and gorillas don't come close to boasting that.
