Absinth is a bitter alcoholic beverage flavoured with wormwood and others herbs. Since ancient times it has been used for its healing properties, aphrodisiac effects and as an elixir of youth. Popular as a creativity enhancer among artists and writers, it becomes a symbol of bohemian lifestyle.
Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) is the chief flavouring ingredient of absinthe. Others ingredients include mint, coriander, star anise, fennel hyssop and angelica root which strengthen the aroma and flavour. Blamed for convulsions, hallucinations and psychoses caused by excessive drinking, absinthe becomes prohibited in many countries in the beginning of the twentieth century. Since 1998 absinthe production is once again permitted in EU countries with a maximum quantity of 10mg/kg thujone. The latest studies show that doses of thujone in absinth do not cause any damage to the nervous system.
Absinthe is a strong spirit, usually having an alcoholic content of 60-70%. This liquor is not designed to be consumed straight! It should be diluted with water. Addition of water opens absinth up, it gives it full flavour, it is a drink you may sip on for 30 minutes when you are enjoying yourself. ↑ |

Yup well the stuff on ebay has the wormwood in it. They have a warning on the page about it.
I thought the stuff was banned in Australia anyway...i thought it was only european countries that allowed you to purchase it legally. Guess i was wrong!
