So last night after a day of being relatively normal, Silas spiked a fever of 104.

We took him to emerg right away and got in fairly quickly considering our hospital usually has waits of at least 2 hours before being moved to a bed...

Anyways, the nurse started giving me shit for not giving him tylenol during the day.
Well not giving me shit so much as being really condescending towards me and basically telling me that I did something wrong.

This was after I had told her that he was fine all day and that I was checking his temperature regularly.
I didn't give him tylenol before we left to go to the hospital because we were going to the damn hospital.

Last time I checked, you don't medicate healthy babies. If he HAD had a fever then I would have given him some. GUH! People.

So he got some tylenol at the hospital and they did a chest x-ray to make sure he didn't have pneumonia(which he doesn't) and the doctor took a throat swab to check for strep since his throat was a little red.

It was waaaaay past his bedtime by the time we got him home last night and then he woke up screaming in the middle of the night and it took us a while to calm him down let alone get him back to sleep.
Then he woke up at 5:45 this morning...so he's delightful today.

He's napping now and I don't know how long that's going to last so I think I'll nap too. I am friggin exhausted.

Jason thinks getting up a little earlier and going to work tired sucks...taking care of a sick, unhappy, super grumpy and whiny toddler while being tired and having no time to just relax, sucks way worse.

yep....EXACTLY what happened to Anika...remember what I said? mild fever one evening, then gone all day the next day then BAM 104!!!!! is he eating? Anika didn't eat for two days, and was REALLY dehydrated....we found out she didn't have any infections...but she had a red throat too...must be the weather...i usually get sick too when the seasons change....

hope your lil guy feels better soon. i feel your pain....anika's fevers would always spike the most while she was sleeping, so i'd constantly be going into her room to check on her....you get very sleep deprived...try to get some rest!! :-)

oh!!! do you stagger tylenol and motrin to keep the fever down? we have to do that with anika. her fevers are so hard to get down so she'll be like 104, give her motrin, and it goes down to about 101 and then it spikes back up hours before we can give her another dose so we give her tylenol instead....the two don't react with eachother. it's aspirin that's the dangerous one. some docs don't like alternating like that, but we got the ok from our doc to do that. if you don't already do that, you should see how your doc feels about it.

good luck!!

oh and tell Jason to suck it up buttercup!!! ha ha

Yeah he's eating fine. In fact he's chowing down on chicken fingers right now. He's been drinking lots too so I don't really get it.

No fever today so far but my GOD he's in a pissy mood.

I liked it better wen he was cuddley and weak instead of aggressive and bitchy. lol
