Any suggestions on making the transition from bottle to cup? My daughter is 9 months old. We have three different kinds of sippy cups, including the nuby brand with the soft spout. She likes them all, but only if there's water in them. If it's formula, she doesn't seem to want the cup. I'd appreciate any advice...

My suggestion would be to let it happen naturally. Maybe when you start making the change from formula to whole milk would be a good time. Let her have the water in the sippy cup to get accustomed to it and then milk....she comforted by the formula in the bottle.

I guess I could do that. My doctor recommends having the baby off the bottle by 15 months, so I definitely have time. The only problem is that I'm pregnant, and my daughter will be 13 months when the new baby is born, so I was kind of hoping to have her off the bottle by then - for selfish reasons - I don't want to buy more bottles!

try doing it slowly. lwt her dring other stuff form the sippy and formula from her bottle. then try to get her to take formula form the sippy during the day and use the bottle only at night. edventually she will get sick of the bottle, but if she doesn't then when she is 1yrs old then you can change to cows milk and she may take that from the sippy just fine.

LOL......i tried putting formula in Anika's sippy cup a couple weeks ago, and she wouldn't have it....same thing....only if there's water in it!!! I have one of those sippy cups that have the straw that goes down to the bottom. She likes that one the best. But she won't drink from it if i put formula in it.

I think Anika distinguishes between each: sippy cup=water, bottle=formula. I think I'll just wait for it to happen naturally. Like what Jeanie said, maybe wait until I start giving her whole milk. And then have a different sippy cup JUST for whole milk, another for just water, and then still her bottle at first for when I still give her a bit of formula, and eventually gradually take the bottle away

Alexis was the same way. She would drink everything but her milk out of it. So I started only giving it to her in the bottle in the morning and at night, then I only gave it to her in the bottle at night, then I stopped all together.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad to know that it doesn't just happen overnight for everyone. She does love to drink her water out of her sippy, so I'll just wait until she starts on whole milk to give her anything else in it.
