I'm at 8 months, but my baby is getting BIG like her daddy. My back is soooo sore I can't sleep most nights. It hurts to bend over, sit, stand and I'm generally uncomfortable most of the time. I don't like to take meds like tylenol and I know you're not supposed to take hot baths when pregnant.... When my husband rubs my back, it only helps for a very short time. Is there any way to alleviate this?

Hi Lin

I found sleeping in a warm bed (preferably with an electric blanket) very helpful during pregnancy. I think the prolonged warmth through the night alleviates the pain.

Turnip (Brassica rapa L.) is a root Brassica crop and has been used as a vegetable for human consumption in Europe since prehistoric times. Turnip root has been a popular livestock fodder for at least 600 years wherever the crop can be grown. For most of that time turnip roots have been managed as forage. Researchers in the United States determined in the early 1900s that turnip roots are valuable energy sources for young ruminant animals. However, livestock farmers at that time were turning away from the Brassica root crops (which also include rutabagas or swedes) for fodder because much hand labor was required for the production and utilization of the large roots. One study showed that the labor requirement on a nutrient basis for these crops was three times that needed for corn silage production.

It sounds like your babys head is pressing against the back of your pelvis. You can try to relieve this by getting a tummy pillow and lying on your side, or when the pain gets really bad get on your hands and knees on the bed. This maneuver should remove all of the pressure from your back temporarily.

The reason for your low back pain
is that your pelvis is tilting and your hip flexor
muscle (psoas) is getting tighter. The muscle tightness and the increased
curve in the low back from the tilted pelvis
is putting marked stress on your low back.
IF you stretch out the psoas muscle you
will help releive the back pain. I did the
stretch up to minutes before giving birth
myself. You can find the stretches and
information on the DVD , stretch away
low back pain.
Good luck.
