Hell No!!! You wouldn't have your tonsils out without pain medicine why the hell would you put yourself through that pain if you don't have to. I will be begging for the pain meds from the second I walk in the hospital doors!!!!! Can you say EPIDURAL?

I am getting an Epidural with the baby I am pregnant with now(Unless C-Section is needed) because with my first baby I got it and I was in so much pain and was so stress due to the pain that once I got it I was able to sleep until it was time to start pushing. I wasnt able to lift my legs but I was able to know when to push and had my baby in 30min from start of pushing till the end. So if you feel like you cant take the pain any longer dont wait to long because after long enough they cant give it to you anymore. All you feel is pressure and a lil pushing doesnt hurt at all but it does a wonders to help with the pain of labor.

With the Epidural the only thing you cant do for like 30 mins after is walk long distances. You can hold your baby and sit up and all that I had my baby in my arms and right next to me from when she was taken out till when she had to be in ICU for Johndas(if thats how you spell it lol). So if you really cant hadle the pain its a good thing to look into

i went natural and it wasnt at all that bad like people say. I think that since we are introduced to the pain meds that people find that as an easy way out. to me, i dont want a way out. i got pregnant and i had my baby the way it was supposed to be. I have NOTHING against these that have an epidural but i would never choose to do so. Im only 18 years old and my baby was 8 pounds 11 ounces at birth. so i should have been scared out of ALOT of people...but i was happy..overwhelmed. When i got checked for dialation i was already 4cm...after that i walked around and drank fluids until they MADE me get in bed. I hated the bed...the Contractions seemed soo much stronger and im not going to lie, there were times when i thought i couldnt do it but as the contractions started hurting more and more...they were telling me to push the babys head down. When you push during a contraction..let me tell you that it feels a WHOLE lot better!! you'll know when to push though.
also the epidural scares me that i wouldnt feel myself push my baby out and that they would have to use forceps or suction on my baby and that can cause brain damage so thats another reason why i wanted to go natural.
someone said that needles are not mandatory...which they probably arent but they stuck and IV in me anyhow and i hated it!!! i actually tore it out on accident trying to touch my babys head..and to me that was a RELIEF!! i did not want that damn needle in my hand.
youll get through it though..good luck!!

Just make sure that you are flexible especially if this is your first one. Everyone experiences labor differently. Some women barely feel their contractions (yes, I have met a few) and some women can't even get past 1 cm without pain meds. I tried to go as far as I could without pain meds, but on day 2 of my induction, I reacted to the pitocin and had a continuous contraction that peaked and didn't stop. They called it "bunching" Not fun. After that I took the epidural. Just listen to your body and trust yourself and do whatever you feel is right.

Thanks for the advice Chris. By the way how many kids do you have? And are you pregnant now?

Jennica, I have one child, a little boy who is 2 and we are trying for baby #2. I'm excited because I love kids and I love being pregnant, can't wait! It's true, you forget about the labor and pain enough to want to do it again. I hope you are able to have the birth that you want though. As for me, I really liked the epidural, my son was over 10 lbs. and my Dr. didn't think I would have had him vaginally without the epidural, so in my case, it was a way to avoid the C-section. (They thought he was a small baby because he was so active.) You won't believe how amazing it is when you get to see your baby delivered! I thought I was overwhelmed on my wedding day, but this was even more so. Best feeling ever to get to hold your baby for the first time!

Well Chris i hope you get pregnant soon. As for me i've had a rocky pregnancy so far. I've been sick a lot but hopefully i'll feel better soon

Name: Chris | Date: Mar 6th, 2006 8:54 PM
Sorry to hear that, it does get better. Just enjoy it before you hit the very end, you get sick again! My son wanted to buy a baby brother at the store this weekend, he thinks he needs one and apparently thought that was how you get them. Guess we'll need to wait till I'm well into a pregnancy before telling him! Too bad it wasn't that easy sometimes! Anyway, I hope you feel better soon, pregnancy is such a great time, I always loved feeling my baby move and watching my belly!

Are you pretty far? I didn't read the whole thread, sorry. I got over the naseau around 4 months, but kept puking some till about 5 months, then I felt great till the last month. Everyone is different though. Maybe ask your Dr. if there's anything that you can do to feel better.

When they put the epidural in you don't see it all you feel is a pinch and they ask you if you feel any cramps in either of your legs. They had my epidural in within 2 minutes because they knew what they were doing and there were 2 anesthesiologists putting it in not just 1.

Jennica, have you tried the sea band bracelets? They are for motion sickness but they really do help. Saved me a lot! Heather, I'm so glad to hear from someone else that got an epidural, I loved mine and will probably do it again. I couldn't feel a thing, they had to tell me when I was having contractions even! I pushed my baby out in under an hour and did just fine. Sometimes it helps to know what you can take and when you need some help. My Dr. told me right away that there is no shame in taking it.

I'm going for a natural delivery it's my first so i don't want an epidural or any drugs i'm also going to have my little girl at home with a midwife

Name: Michelle K | Date: Mar 7th, 2006 8:22 PM
Hi Jennica, good luck with going the natural way. i too went natural with my last three children. With my first baby I had an intrathecal(its a little different from an epidural) I was so sick afterwards that I couldnt enjoy my baby. So I went natural with the last three, not to mention they came alot quicker than my first baby, so that helped too. I have nothing against an epidural, they just arent offered at the hospital I am going to. And my labor is never really bad enough for pain relieve until its too late to get any. Meaning by the time I had asked for any I was already 10 cm. You can do it, but dont feel bad if you really feel the need for relief, thats what its there for. Best of luck to you and your pregnancy.

Thanks Michelle K for the support. By the way are you pregnant now?

Name: Michelle K | Date: Mar 7th, 2006 8:39 PM
Yes I am. Number 5 for me. I am due May 8th with a little boy. I am hoping he comes a little early like his sister did(not too early though) My daughter(my 4th) was born 2 weeks early and my other threee were within one day of their due dates. I am very sick of being pregnant. Very uncomfortable at night. And sick of being a big fatty lol. I cant wait to begin a good diet and exercise plan once this little guy is born. Its such a perfect time for me to have the baby(spring) Because I will be able to take the kids out for walks. It will be nice to be able to get some fresh air again. When are you due Jennica?

I'm due june 3rd with my second. My back has been killing me almost from the start and hjas gotten worse over time. How is your back doing?

Name: Michelle K | Date: Mar 7th, 2006 9:16 PM
my back kills me. especially after laying down and then getting up. Its my lower back. It makes it hard to walk at times. Not to mention I have the whole ciatic nerve thing going on too. When that acts up it maks it impossible to move at all. Have you had any problems with that?

Name: jennica | Date: Mar 7th, 2006 9:21 PM
well i've been a couple of car wrecks so my back seems to always to be hurting so being pregnant makes it more painful.
what do you do for your pain?

Name: Michelle K | Date: Mar 7th, 2006 9:24 PM
Sometimes if I am lucky my hubby will rub it for me and that usually helps for a little while or I take a hot shower and let the water run on my back. But all in all nothing really works that well to help with the pain. I guess I will just have to wait until I deliver for permanent relief.

yeah me too. Massage works well but i don't get one enough.
