Bring her to the vet. You obviously don't know what you are doing and that is really irresponsible and not fair or safe for your dog. Many dogs need c sections in order for all the pups to arrive safely and remain healthy. You should have done your research and had many follow up visits during before and during your dogs pregnancy.

She is nearing the end of her gestation period that is usually 8-9 weeks. About now she should be looking for a safe quiet place to deliver her pups. You may want to help her prepare a bed in a nice quiet place, a place she will feel comfortable for when that time comes. When she is almost ready to deliver she may start pacing and possibly wine a lot, she may also begin making her bed for the delivery. Be sure to stay with her through the whole birthing proses it is possible she will need assistance with the delivery. If she goes more than 2 hours between a delivery she may need to see a vet so be prepared to take her if necessary. It would be a good idea to have her seen by a vet just to be sure all is well with her and her puppies. I do hope I have helped, Good luck keep us informed!

You're gonna have 5 dogs? That sounds exciting. I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 birds, and I keep fish! I would have SO many more dogs, but I have a baby on the way now so the pets I have are enough. Aw 4 puppies to watch grow up. So cute.

Oh and regarding your question, dogs give birth with relative ease compared with humans. Their babies are also a lot more tough. Trust in her; she knows what to do. Watch what she does, give her plenty of clean blankets, clean water, something to nibble on, and lots of attention and reassurance. She'll give birth when it's her time; have the emergency vet's number just in case you need it. But remember she isn't ill. She's pregnant. Repetitive trips to the vet may only stress her out. She wants calm and her mum now to have her puppies. Relax, and she'll be fine. :)

thanks briseis that really made me feel better i think today is the day shes in her nesting box still and thats not like her shes always up and outside by now chasein the birds but im right by her side i just dont want her to go through alot of pain...

Is this her first litter? Is she a young dog herself?

Name: briseis | Date: May 17th, 2007 12:18 PM
I'm actually a trained Veterinary Nurse; I worked in an emergency clinic, so I understand your concerns. I know you don't want her in pain. But it's very natural. She's possibly in her first stage of labour now. During this stage, uterine contractions begin. She'll pace, shiver, pant. She might even vomit. Even though she may look uncomfortable and stressed, this is all normal, and she needs to go through it for full dilation. It can last for hours until she begins to push her puppies out. As she's having 8 babies, sit with her, and her puppies may be born tail first (again this is normal so don't worry), and the placentas will follow the puppies relatively quickly. She may have 3 puppies, then 2 placentas, then another pup, then another 2 placentas. Again, this is normal.
If this is her first litter, her instincts SHOULD be to lick each pup clean to get the membrames off. If she doesn't lick each puppy click, do it for her with a damp towel, or else the pup will suffocate. You can cut umbilical cords yourself if she doesn't bite it herself. She'll give birth to one pup every hour or so, and she may stop to take a rest mid delivery. So don't worry if she gives birth to 4 babies, and then stops. The others will follow when she has the energy to begin pushing again. If a few hours go by with no puppies, call your vet. Remember that some puppies may be rejected by mum. Try to encourage her to accept them, by placing her next to the others. Puppies have little chance of survival without mum, and will need immediate care to keep fed and warm. Hope this helps. Let me know how she is. :)

this is her first litter and shes 4 its hard to see her go through this shes my baby your info really does help the vets already told me these things but it helps to here it from other people this wasent suppose to happed but it did i left her with a friend who aloso has a male boxer so i had to leave her due to death in the family and she went into heat while i was gone so i didnt mean for this to happen but it will work out

Name: briseis | Date: May 17th, 2007 2:38 PM
Oh so they'll be pedigree puppies. That's lovely. Well, let us know when shes given birth. :)

Sorry to hear about the death in the family by the way ... I remember having to leave my dog with heart disease with my fiancé's mum when I had a death in my family. I couldn't leave him in kennels because he was prone to infection what with his heart disease, and I hated leaving him with someone who didn't understand his disease and who may not give him his medication correctly. But it had to be done. I've been there, and been forced to leave my dog with the first person who said they would keep him for a couple of night, so don't blame yourself for this happening. At least it happened with another boxer, rather than a mixed breed whereby the other 4 might have been difficult to adopt out.

Ok, and one more thing... what are you going to do with 5 dogs? You said you work... How are you going to find time to train 4 puppies, give them all the excercise they need (as I'm sure you already know, boxers are a very high energy dog) provide good vet care for 5 dogs (vaccinations, dental work, dew claw removal (you do that anyway before you sell the puppies) ear cropping, tail docking (those last 2 for all 8 puppies as well... it needs to be done very early) spaying/neutering of your 4 to prevent inbreeding. Then there is food... I just don't see how you are going to have the time to give 5 dogs the attention and care they need. I have two dogs and they require a lot of time and energy. If I had to go to work everyday, I don't think I would have gotten them.

I just hate people like you. That is exactly why I didn't finish school to be a vet. Everyone thinks they are a dog breeder. I feel like punching everyone of them and then taking them to an animal shelter and showing them what problems they are creating. I am now working in a shelter doing their vaccines and I see idiots like you everyday, the difference is we have the power to do something about it and make a difference. Vets don't. I won't reply to your topics anymore. You are a pathetic child.

I am so confused here. Were you trying to breed your dog?

Name: Randi | Date: May 17th, 2007 10:42 PM
I don't need a man, I have one that I am more than happy with thanks. What you need is to grow up. How old are you? 13?

Name: nckeeptryin | Date: May 18th, 2007 12:18 AM

Name: Randi | Date: May 18th, 2007 12:52 AM
I just think you are an undereducated liar.If you had really taken your dog to the vet as many times as you say, you would know the signs of labour. That's why I have a problem with you. You are a BACKYARD BREEDER!!!

Name: momof3 | Date: May 18th, 2007 1:32 PM
I think that Randi is trying to say that if you are going to breed a dog or any pet for that matter, you need to know everything before you go into it. I think you just took her the wrong way.

Name: nckeeptryin | Date: May 18th, 2007 2:23 PM
are you fukn people stupid i did not breed her it happend while i was away i do no what to look for i have read and my vet did tell me what to look for but that still dosnt prepare a person some times randi go sit the fuk down and get a life i thought i told you that i didnt want to here from you and your mamas a backyard breeded you stupid bitch.....

Name: lindalu | Date: May 18th, 2007 4:14 PM
So any way, Nckeeptyin how is your girl doing now any signs of pups yet?

Name: T-rabbit | Date: May 18th, 2007 7:06 PM
GOOD LUCK!! LOL. Remember, every one gets their feelings hurt so filter through the crap and find the help you need. I would recommend getting all the pups fixed that you plan to keep. Have the new owners sign a agreement to fix the pups they take by 5 months. However, they are your dogs and your responsibility.

briseis Thanks for helping her that was very kind of you. Glad to know there are a few here still trying to help.
