I only know one house where they smoke inside...they dont have kids and are an older couple...the place stinks, even though they open the windows all the time...theyve lost their sense of smell due to smoking...
feels funny when i visit and can have a cigarette inside...feels like im breaking the rules...keep waiting for someone to say..."put it out!!!"...LOL

When I did smoke I didn't smoke inside or in the car either! I just feels wrong to do so! Now if I walk past some-one that is a smoker I can tell straight away cos thats all you can smell...

I quit smoking 10 years ago and have never gone back since.
I started when I was 17 and quit at 21. At that time i had become a heave smoker and was at 2 paks a day.
I quit while I was in the hospital with pnamoia(however that is spelled)
I was in for 1 week and when I got out I had been clean 1 Week...After that I kept a water bottle in my hand that had a sipper on the top....Every time I felt tthe craving for a cig. i would sip out of that bottle...
It must have worked...I only smoked 1 or 2 more within 6 months and haven't touched one since........I actually can't stand the smell anymore.
Well Hope this gives you encouragement.....

I quit smoking, fianlly, in 1981. It was a total, minute by minute concentration......very tiring! I bought a bag of tootsie roll pops to help take care of the hand to mouth motion....I think that was probably the hardest.

I quit doing all the things I would do while I smoked. I didn't sit down to have coffee and read the newspaper. I got up as soon as I finished a meal. I quit going out to eat because back then smokers were in all the restaurants. No more bars or bowling alleys. That sort of thing.

I went and had my teeth cleaned!!! That was the beginning.

When I didn't have a tootsie roll pop I would sit on my hands. It was hard because my dh smoked too!

He kept saying he wanted to quit but never attempted....so finally I put his ash tray on the porch and told him that was the only place he could smoke. No more in the house! It was in the middle of winter in 1985/'86 and mind you he didn't stay out there very long.

I got him a book by the American Cancer Society called 21 days to stop smoking Freshstart. It's a good book because it tells you exactly how you are going to feel each day as your body adjusts.

If I recall, it said that the 8th day is the hardest.

I recommend the book if you can't do it on your own. He has not had a cigarette since June of 1986!!!!

And another thing I did, was add up the cost. shocker! even though I had a vague idea and it's nothing compared to today.

dh said he would quit when they cost a dollar a pack. that's when the ash tray went outside.

I gave up as soon as I found out I was pregnant.as for my husband though he took a bit longer.about 10 weeks before our son was born he went to a lazer clinic.he was in there for an hour and hasnt smoked since.it cost a bit but it was worth it.they give him a lot of tips of how to get over the craving like change routine.after dinner he used to go outside and have a smoke, now he helps me wash up.he would never smoke inside or in the car and now theres laws everywere you cant hardly smoke anywere in qld.pubs clubs arenas.hes much healthier happier and we have more money to spend on other stuff.you have to want to do it though.

Marija,

When I was looking to buy a car, I went to this husband and wives house and after Id test driven the car she invited me in for a drink of water, (it was a REALLY hot day) and I think she thought I was going to buy her car. I only really took it for a test drive so I could park it down the road and really check it out without her there and compare the condition to others Id seen.

Her car smelled like an ashtray and when she invited me in I thought I was going to throw up. AND IM A SMOKER. The two of them must just chain smoke in their cars and in their house. It was horrendous!
