Had to be the wine I guess! Maybe it was a bad idea to add it but i only used half a cup!

how cooked is it now...enough to try i guess but can you drain that and add some more spices for now?

I cooked it in the crockpot for 6 hours til it was so tender it was falling to pieces but it doesn't taste right. I don't know what went wrong! I don't know if I should boil some water and dump in the meat and give it a good rinse and try to flavor it some other way or what?!

wine is so nice in a roast...but you kind of need to keep the spices at a minumum with it....I love putting a little red wine in while cooking a roast...
yes rinse it out good, and cook it in water at low heat for about an hour

Won't it then become totally flavorless then? (not that i like the taste of it now!)

My husband is not gonna be very happy when he gets up to eat this,we've been talking about this meal for a week!

I just don't understand what went wrong. The only thing I did differently this time was added some wine instead of water hoping for a better flavor but it's backfired on me!!!

NO totally not. When ever I cook a roast in the oven or crock pot I always add water and let it cook high at about 425 for about 40 mins.....then right down to like 250-25 later. Just cooking for hours.......its so tender than. Garlic, onions, itallian seasoning and its called McCormick steak spice.....so good soooo good. Give it a go.....cant hurt now.

i should have stuck to what i knew was good instead of trying the wine!

Name: Lizzi | Date: Jan 9th, 2007 10:22 PM
Yeah i don't think I can possibly make it any worse!

I just hate screwing up expensive meat!

Maybe I should get out a big pan and cook it up in some beer?

Do you have some Lipton Onion soup mix? If so, mix it with your water and then put it in your roast. That should add some flavor to it.

Do you have any beef broth? You can add some salt and pepper to the broth and then pour over your roast. That will help with some flavor. The wine sounds good, I'll bet it's not as bad as you think!

Do you think i cooked it too long? Although there was plenty of juice in it and extremely tender.

It's probably 'off'.......don't eat it unless you want vomiting and diarrhoea for the next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks atomic!

If you still have lots of juice, it's just the type that becomes super tender. You could shred it and have beef sandwiches out of it. I take it, hubby doesn't like it when it falls apart?

I got more wine too maybe I should drowned it out in a beer/wine combo?! No,just kidding!

hey atomic sorry for being a butthole last time we talked.

Those will work, too. What kind of roast is it, if I may ask? If it's like a prime rib roast, then yes, you did cook it too long. However, if it's super tender, it should be fine, too.

Name: tweetybird4 | Date: Jan 9th, 2007 10:34 PM
Does it taste funny to you? You said no flavor, right? Did you add any seasonings before you started cooking it?

Name: Lizzi | Date: Jan 9th, 2007 10:35 PM
No actually we meant for it to fall apart but it just doesn't taste anything like i thought it would and i didn't realize using wine instead of water would make such a huge and not as good difference! Maybe it's the way it's supposed to taste using the wine and I just don't like it this way but since this is the first time I've tried it this way I don't know if the taste is right or wrong!

It's a chuck roast.

Name: tweetybird4 | Date: Jan 9th, 2007 10:36 PM
Okay, then it seems to be fine. Just add some of your seasonings to it. It smells so good!! LOL

Next time you make roast, try this get a roast, and carrots and potatoes and put them in your crockpot, Then mix a can of cream of mushroom soup and a can of pepsi together. Take a envelope of onion soup mix (lipton has the powdered stuff) sprinkle the dry soup all over the roast and veggies, then pour the soup and pepsi mixture over the reast and cook on low for 6-8 hours,

Try it girls it is really good and you can't taste the pepsi, it just tenderizes the meat.

Name: maxieellis | Date: Jan 10th, 2007 12:33 AM
soup and pepsi ....for real?! But i think we know ya pretty good. I might just give it a go.lol

beer in the slowcooker with a bison roast or steak is awsome, a B.C. tradition
