I try to tell her that even though she is biracial, the American society sees her as Black.

I am the grand mother of 12 grand daughters and 9 grand sons I have 6 daughters and 2 sons of my own. I want to share a store with you. while out going door to door selling my greeting cards I came across a young dad who took some time to answer his door. This young dad explained to me that he and his son were watching Oboma get sworn in as our President ( a rerun). He explain to me that his 9 year old son likes Oboma. too his son Oboma is the President of the United States and not a black man that is president of the United States , this coming from a white dad about his son. My 18 grand daughter who dad is white, is now 3 years old and each time she lay eyes on a flag she will point and say look! look! President Obomas flag! I am 57 years old and attended an all black school back in the sixties because the schoos were not integrated back in my day. back in my day there was a law called the MAN ACT, where a black man caught dating a white woman , would be breaking the law and could go to jail. and that was not a long time ago! that was just 40 years ago! These two Multicultural babies are in a new KNOWN WORLD OF THERE MAKING NOT MINE NOR THEIR PARENTS! I love it. There will always be the nay nay Sayers. Which is not your problem as a parent. Please choose your extended family wisely and you should not have any problems. Believe me you will not have the time to deal with them any way. Parenting is a full time job. Choose all your battle on your time not some one else time. As a black mother with a child by a white man. You have crossed the line and you know what line I am talking about. Just keep in mind that you can not pretend that the line is not there, for it is. The content of ones character is the only thing that any one should be measured by. and you should treat all the rest like a double H hockey stick , this is a kind way of saying You DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THE DUMB STUFF LIFE IS JUST TOO SHORT. Your family will be just fine. You ever catch any one staring wave at them or say hello with a smile that will ease their confusion. Remember we are our brothers keeper. Love will cover a multitude of other people and their fault . Your baby and my 3 year old and all the other babies are here today in the new world. what is behind them is also behind us. And those that will let go and step into the future will be left behind. Still be careful because an ignorant person can be a dangerous person. The Greatest Protection of all is found in Matthew chapter 6 in the lords prayer. The power to parent and handle any thing will be found in the chapter

| You know i definately agree with Mama Gooch 20 folds interracial families is great. I have A black uncle who just married my Puerto Rican Aunt back in May i believe they already have children so they are my cousins. Interracial dating is another great thing as well because its plain boring to constantly date someone in your own race all the time, its so damn plain but as for mixing it up its what we do best nowa days. I love Spanish,White,Brazilian and Jamaican as well as other people so much I can't even describe how much i love them especially my White n Spanish folks. ↑ |

For years, I have been looking for the proper greeting card for my multiracial family. After years of searching, I found it almost impossible to find a card that featured even a Black and White couple. Not to mention a blended family card.
So I decided to make my own.Congradulations : Evelyn’s ...
Love with your eyes open. (B ... The opportunity for me came at the beginning of our current economic meltdown. Despite a long history in technical support for phone companies, I have been laid of and have held one temp position after another. Now in my 50s, it’s been difficult even getting interviews. At first I thought that It was because I was black? well, I am sure that, may be in come cases and in other that it did not have anything to do with it. But, not really. I have met so many woman and men my age that are telling me that they are having a hard time also, and that it has a lot to do with our age? “We are too young for social security but too old to get hired? Age discrimination? Yes! How silent this form of discrimination is? Being young all my life I have never had to deal with age discrimination? This is a new "foe" for me. As my period of unemployment stretched on, benefits ran out. Bills went unpaid, forcing me out of my apartment into my daughter’s. I lost my car after it was towed and I was unable to afford the impound fee. “I literally had to start all over again”. Then I began to look inward for inspiration. And I found it where I always had – in my family, in God and in love. “My great-grandfather was White,” And my grandfather, although a Black man, could pass for a Caucasian. Where we never have had the pleasure of purchasing greeting cards that Look like us.
I am now the proud mother of eight children and 21 grandchildren, My son is married to a white woman and 2 of my daughters are married to white men. I am very passionate and a bit philosophical about how people perceive race as an impediment to a relationship.
“It’s not about color, it’s not about race, it’s about ignorant people and a lack of love".
With more time on my between work assignments. I began experimenting with a longtime dream of mine – I have stared making my own greeting cards. Using my own family and friend as models, I took my camera and selected several images and went to several print companies that were ran by older people like myself or and who were of a blended family and showed them my ideas for cards. I support shopping in my community and country. “I’m using the Orville Redenbacher sales model. Going door to door business and residential, I am plying my cards much like the popcorn icon first distributed his snacks. I have encountered a number of parents and grandparents with mixed-race children and grandchildren who were ecstatic about finding cards that reflex them and their family in a portrait type settings.
I have been at this sense March 8th 2009 going door to door, I have my cards in 25+ locations around town and I have a personal business website, www.evelynsgreetingcards.com. But growing my own business is hard, and it is fun and loving at the same time, it hasn’t been easy. It’s been a step-by-step process.
“One week I bought a registry, the next week I bought a business license, the next I bought a domain, and the week after I bought the insurance for the e-commerce".
By distributing my cards in more places, I hope my cards not only give multicultural families a greeting card that reflects them, but a window into a world that is still fairly taboo for many people such as my family. I am sure that if more people were able to view my new line of card that they would purchase them. I am not able to go out door to door as much as I have during the summer because of the cold weather here In Portland. yet I am when ever I can. Well, I am a 57 year old grand mother of 21 grand children and half are multicultural. I can only see the love in my grand baby's eyes when they run up to give me a hug. As a young black woman with a white husband. forget that he is white and he needs to forget that you are black. that may sound hard to do, but you must if you plan live as couple that have taken the vows of marriage. You will hear many conflicting stories! that will pull your multicultural family apart. first of all you are husband and wife and the children that you will have will be just that your children and if any one has a problem with that then they will have to catch up. Just keep in mind that many in our society are so far behind that they are never going to catch up and that is not you and your husbands problem. I hope that you live in the NW on the West coast, this is the best place in the country to raise Multicultural family. I plan to attend Portland State University this fall to get a degree in family counseling specializing in multicultural relationships. So many so call mixed marriages and their children should not have to ask the question that you ask here? Just be happy and 86 all the bull and raise your family.

| I am white and my husband is black. We have a 4 year old daughter, and a baby on the way. My children have several cousins, mixed, white, black, hispanic. My daughter has asked me what color she is, and I told her she is both. This didn't satisfy her, so she asked one of her cousins. He said she is brown like him, and realizing that she has family the same color as her has made her happy. No one has ever made a rude comment about her race to my face. She is beautiful. Everyone stops us to tell us how much they love her skin color, or how to ask me how I keep her hair so nice (she has my hair, but its light rown and has natural spiral curls). She has mentioned that all her friends are white, but she is only in preschool, so Im sure that will change when she is in a larger school. My parents love their grandchildren all equally, the white ones and the mixed race ones. They werent surprised when any of us brought home black guys in high school. My mother raised us to not see color as something bad. His family treat my daughter just like everyone else too. I know that she will encounter negativity when she gets older, but in the city we live in right now, there are more mixed race children and hispanics than white and black. I tell my nieces and nephews that the people who say negative things about them being mixed are just ignorant and weren't taught any better by their own parents. They don't hear very many negative comments either. ↑ |

| i have a need to know how others deal with white kids freezing out your mixed kids..i mean they act nice to his face but they never ask him to get together or anything. he is 13 and in close constant contact. we, his parents seem to be his biggest fans and supporters. i Know he gets tired of us all the time. Helpful suggestions. we dont get stares, or questions because we've lived here (in La) in one city mostly of his life but most white kids seem to clan up and leave him out. OR, ythey go off and do things that are unsupervised and we dont encourage THAT!. Hes a really great kid. too! ↑ |

| Congratulations! Motherhood is a very special gift that most women take for granted; so do parents in general. My husband and I are expecting baby #4 in October, and after six years of marriage our challenges as an interracial couple have not changed. Neither of our parents have genuinely accepted our union, and do an awful job of pretending. Then there is the ignorance of people within the community who pass this disease on to their children, whose reactions to our bronze babies mimic their parents reaction to a BW and WM; this behavior is common in the south. However, I believe that love and respect is what is required for any relationship to endure the challenges that are sure to come. ↑ |
