I am not a mom as of yet. I am 40 and my husband and I are thinking about having our first child. I am very nervous and unsure because I hear and read about the chances of complications and birth defects. Can anybody out there give me any advise?

Diane,
I would love to chat with you and anybody else in our boat. I just turned 40 in April and my husband and I are thinking of having our first child but as I mentioned earlier, I am nervous, no not nervous, scared! I am scared about the problems that may occur, the birth defects, the pain that I will encounter, everything. I am not sure if I can handle it. My husband and have our own business-dog training here in Tucson. It is very rewarding. I am finishing my Bachelor's degree (yes a little late-but better late then never) and we have three dogs. Of course I always worry if we can afford a child but everyone that I say that to says you can never afford a child. Anyway, what are your thoughts and concerns?

I am 45, and a very happy mother of two healthy and gorgeous boys, ages 5 and 3. Yes, I had my first one at 39. I don't regret a single minute, my boys are wonderful and I rarely think about my age. I guess they keep me young :-). ↑ |

| Hi I'm 55 yrs. old and now I have a 4 yr. & a 6 yr. they aren't mine but we are raising them. I just know kids are not the same as mine were back in those days. I enjoy redoing my house, art,sewing and building things. ↑ |
