tina, i think you have 2 very young dogs and as in nature they will practice and fight and then come to a calm, i think they are going thru a natural process. let them be and they will stop. to distance them will make them more aggressive towards other dogs. as much contact as possible is the best thing. you must know staffs are not great with other dogs their history is clear. they are fighting dogs a man made breed. to seperate them will make this worse. let them scrap its mostly all mouth and not alot eles, or you will be avoiding everyone in the park, god bless good luckx

I lost my female staff at 14 years old and I also have a female jack russell of 16 years, they were together 24-7 for 14 years and got along brilliantly. I have bought another staff female and is 3 months old. she does pester my jack russell but they do play. I hope all will be ok, but judging from my other staff if they are brought up with other animals they can get along fine with no worries. Mine did for 14 years!!!

sammy. your staff will be just fine as long as he or she is used to being left alone and not for too long, maybe a couple of hours at the most.

ORIGINALLY THEY WERE BRED TO WATCH & KILL RATS UNDER CRIBS. ONLY THING I WOULD WORRY ABOUT IS RAISING YOUR VOICE TO THE BABY! HE MAY LUNGE AT YOU. CONGRATS ON THE NEW BABY.

My sister in law moved in with her 4 year old pit. He lived with me for almost a year when he was 2 due to some health issues & cross country move and they have been back here for almost a year now. She recently began dating 4 the first time and he(the dog) is showing odd aggressiveness towards the cats and jumping in mens faces almost butting them with his head. Does anyone know if they become territorial about their people even when there is no threat to them? Or maybe could he be displaying jealousy bcause of new boyfriend? He also is getting very painful looking erections and uncontrollable humping that he hates. Any ideas?

well, im an experienced staffordshire bull terrier dog handler. i have 2 champion staffies myself. they are excellent with children i am 11yrs old myself. no the staffie wont hurt the child only if he teases and annoys him. take my advice make your dog used to people keep pulling his loose skin and stroking the dog.

OH DEAR !!!
It seam's that there are a few good dog owner's or potential dog owner's on here, But my advice to all.... If you are looking at bringing a dog of any type in to your family, Look up on the majority opinion's of people that have the specified k-9 of your choice.......
STACEY : dog chase's tail all the time ?
It's bored !!! simple as that, You need to show them more attention, show your dog's that there is more exciting thing's than it's tail to play with.
As for not leaving kid's unattended with dog's... Yeah fair comment, But i believe that most dog attack's on children are because the owner of the dog scauld's or shun's the dog every time the dog approache's the child which is wrong and with out realising it you are teaching your dog that your child is a threat and should be weary of it.....socialising your pup does'nt just mean with other dog's it also mean's family member's ( including babie's .) I recommend CEASER MILAN, for your basic's check out this guy if you have a troublesom staff or pitt or come to think of it any other breed, His method's through k-9 psychology really work, stop treating your dog like an accessory and start treating it like you would your child growing up and most of these problem's we face bringing up dog's will dissapear.

Oh yeah ....
Any thing you want your dog to with stand when it's older, i.e . pulling of ear's , fur , stuff like that, let your dog grow up thinking it's ok and that it's part of grooming or playtime and that it mean's that your child is being nice and as your baby get's older correct your baby not the dog, as the dog think's it's your child being nice, but your child will understand that it is wrong and can hurt the dog which will in turn correct your thought's of your 4 legged baby ever turning on a family member.

I have seen a few posts about pits on here and tried to hold my tongue however, they are something I am quite passionate about. First of all congrats, I am 35weeks pregnant and just had to give up my pit. It was devastating to me and no joke almost caused a divorce. I did a ton of research about pits before I gave him up. Every single thing I read talked about how they are so loyal to their people and with such high pain tolerance they make great pets for kids. It sounds like he was raised to love people and shows no signs of aggression. Pit bulls are known to have a little more animal aggression then other breeds but, they are 3rd on the list for human companionship. Your wife should also consider the dogs ability to and nature to protect his people. I realize you hear tons of stuff about pits attacking kids but the truth of the matter is how many are pure bred pits anyway? If a pit and lab mix attacks someone, do you think it will be reported "lab mix attacks child" doubtful.
Secondly, as with any older dog there are proper steps to introducing him to your new baby. I've heard you should give the dog access to the nursery and baby stuff so it can get adjusted to the way a baby smells. Also try carrying around the infant carrier with a doll or something in it to see his reaction. Do not allow him to climb in it or jump up on it. Teach him the rules before the baby ever comes. I've heard if they are allowed on the furniture to try to break that habit so the dog is never above the baby, also you then avoid the dog ever jumping on a bed or couch and landing on the baby not knowing. Lastly, they say never leave the baby and dog unattended. There are a lot of sites you can look up to help with the transition. http://www.dogmeetbaby.com/ best of luck
