| Love my rats, I have just lost my old girl Shiloh due to old age,she was the kindest, gentlest, loyal girl, but now I have two new ones Sapphire 'Sapphy"(chocolate hooded) and Rasta man(biege hooded), I have had them for 8weeks now, they are brother and sister and were 6weeks when we got them, The problem is im pretty sure she is pregnant,(I got them in seperate cages,NOW!) Im just worried she might be a bit young??? ↑ |

To Mashberry: Getting rats fixed is very risky. They are so small and the success rate isn't very high-either from them living through a fixing, or being 100% fixed. If you want to get 2, I would suggest getting 2 of the same gender.
To Elizabeth: If your female continues to grow fatter at a rapid pace (though you probably know by now if she was pregnant) then she will have babies. If she just grows slowly and doesn't get to be the size of a medium or large bouncy-ball; I think you're all right.
To Lisa: Rats can reproduce as soon as 2 weeks-unfortunately, I don't know if I would count on the babies living if it was her brother that spawned them...if they do live through the birth, they might dissapear over the period of their infancy if they have any defects (whether physical or genetic). ↑ |

Rats can not become pregnant at 2 weeks old. It is recommended that the sexes in litters are split at 4.5-5 weeks of age to prevent unwanted pregnancy.
Rat gestation is approximatly 22.5 days but has been known to be longer in the case of delayed implantation, but this is unusual. Female rats come in to season every few days when they are not pregnant, this is usually in the evening and lasts through to the next morning. During this time the rat may waggle her ears when her back is touched, and may seem skattier than usual. Watch out for this to rule out pregnancy. ↑ |

Rats make the best pets ever. I bought 2 males and they have settled in real well.Have fun and look after your "Mouse".

Hi, My I just got back to my mums house, and she has been 'looking' after a pet rat for a friend of hers who is on hospital, my mums way of looking after him/her was by keeping him/her in a cardboard box with some wholes and some fruit thrown in for the mix. The rat is used to getting water from a drip thing, and I just tried to place a small dish of water in front of the rat but it will not drink. it did put its paws in and wipe its face
is that enough. The owner is quite sociable with the rat, and I now have it on the couch with me. What can I feed the poor thing, and how can I get it to drink? ↑ |

| Do you use bleach on your kitchen floor. I had a friend that constantly cleaned her floors with bleach and one of her dogs kept throwing up. I told her to try mopping without bleach and just see what happened. After only a week the dog quit throwing up. Other cleaners also can cause a problem. It's only a thought but worth checking out. ↑ |
